Shannon Noll’s promoter says there’s more to the story about singer’s strip club arrest

SHANNON Noll’s promoter says the singer’s arrest outside an Adelaide strip club is out of character — but some of his fans seem to be relishing the incident.

Shannon Noll charged with assault

SHANNON Noll’s promoter has stated an alleged assault in an Adelaide strip club is out of character for the chart-topping singer.

Promoter Duane McDonald also claims Noll is not the type to name-drop and will not be dumping him from his Red Hot Summer tour.

Noll was arrested and charged with assault against a security guard after an altercation at Adelaide’s Crazy Horse strip club on the weekend.

A bystander has been quoted saying Noll told security “I’m Shannon Noll, let me back in.”

McDonald, promoter of the all Australian Red Hot Summer Tour, said Noll is too down to earth for such a comment.

“He’s not the type of person who would say ‘Don’t you know who I am?’, that’s not in his character at all,” Mr McDonald said.

Noll will perform as scheduled at both sold out Melbourne Red Hot Summer Tour shows this weekend, playing with John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne.

“He’s a decent, hardworking family man,” McDonald said. “I think there’s more to this story than what’s been seen. I wish him all the best. He’s 100-per-cent playing the two shows in Melbourne this weekend. The crowds love him and adore him.”

Mr McDonald was legally unable to comment on the alleged assault.

Noll has refused all interview requests as the controversy plays out.

He is due in court in Adelaide on February 24, the day before he plays a sold out Red Hot Summer show in Queensland.

McDonald has booked Noll for all his Red Hot Summer Tour shows, which travel Australia until April.

This weekend he will play two sold out shows at Mornington in Melbourne with John Farnham, James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite and Taxi Ride, followed by Ballarat on January 28 before shows in New South Wales and Queensland.

While the strip club incident may cause dramas for Noll’s wife and family, it is being embraced by the blokier side of his new online fanbase.

While Noll has yet to make any comment online, his army of social media fans have already started making memes, most based around his breakthrough hit What About Me, and launching a ‘Free Nollsy’ campaign.

“Nollsy ya dead set rooster!,” one wrote on Facebook. “Who do the bloody Crazy Horse think they are?! I reckon that bouncer provoked the raging bull!”

Another said “Nollsie what you been up to old fella!!! I heard from bazza that you ending up in the clink last night!?? Are you all right trooper? Let me know if you want me to come bail you out.”

One fan summed up the positive response from fans noting “Ahhhh vintage Nollsy. Love how ya still churnin out the classics big fella. Forget about them cheeky Muppets giving you curry about spending a couple nights in the slammer. It’s all a part of life. We still luv ya!”

Since becoming ‘meme-bait’ Noll’s Facebook fans try and out “ocker’ each other with comments on anything he posts.

The singer signed with Warner last year and has been working on his fifth album, his first since 2011.
