Pink has become the latest Hollywood star to announce she has tested positive for coronavirus.

Like millions of others, the singer has been practising social distancing and self-isolating in her home with her husband, Carey Hart, and two children for the past few weeks – even putting on a mini-show for fans via Instagram.

But in a lengthy post on social media today, Pink (real name Alecia Moore), 40, revealed that she’d actually discovered a fortnight ago that she had caught COVID-19 and had only just been cleared of the virus currently crippling the globe.

“Two weeks ago my three-year old son, Jameson, and I are were showing symptoms of COVID-19. Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive,” she wrote alongside a picture of herself and her young son.

“My family was already sheltering at home and we continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor. Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are now thankfully negative.”

The What About Us singer then slammed the US government for its lack of coronavirus screening.

“It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible. This illness is serious and real,” she wrote.

“People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities.”

The singer has only just been cleared of the dangerous virus.

Pink also announced she would be donating $500,000 (A$834,000) to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia in honour of her mother, Judy, who “worked there for 18 years”. She added that she was donating an additional $500,000 to LA’s Emergency COVID-19 crisis fund.

“THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones,” she said.

“You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home.”

The United States has the most confirmed coronavirus cases of any country in the world with more than 276,000 reported instances – more than double the rate of Italy, who has the second most cases. So far more than 7300 people have died of coronavirus with much of the country – including population dense states New York and California – in lockdown.
