Fears of a “tell-all” book grew after she admitted for the first time writing a daily journal while she was a working royal, The Sun reports.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, revealed she got her hands on her old diary after finding it in a drawer at Frogmore Cottage, Windsor, this summer.

And she hinted at a bombshell book after revealing she had not signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Her journal could cover her marriage to Prince Harry, the row with Prince William and Kate and Megxit — which was revealed by The Sun in early 2020.

Harry, 37, has finished his own memoir, which is due to be released within months. A source close to his wife said: “I’d be very surprised if Meghan wasn’t writing a book.”

Rumours of the journal charting Meghan’s life as a working royal have circulated for many years. It is also claimed she wrote a diary after taking down her blog The Tig in 2017.

The Duchess confirmed its existence in her wide-ranging interview with The Cut — released on Monday — in which she made several claims which have been attacked as false.

She told the US magazine she stumbled on the journal while looking through drawers stuffed with belongings at Frogmore Cottage when she flew back with Harry for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Meghan said: “You go back and you open drawers and you’re like, Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there?”

Last night an insider said Meghan — who now lives in Montecito, California, with Harry and their two children — kept a diary the whole time.

They added: “Harry and Meghan were told to ignore social media and newspapers but sometimes staff would say to them, ‘so sorry about what was written the other day’, and she would hit the roof. She wrote it all in her diary as an insurance policy.

“If it ever saw the light of day it would surely be dynamite. By the sounds of it, this journal was rediscovered this summer, boxed up and shipped back to Montecito.”

The Duchess’s interview with The Cut contained a swathe of attacks on the Royal Family and her former life in Britain and she heavily hinted that she had plenty more to say.

She said: “It’s interesting, I’ve never had to sign anything that restricts me from talking.”

Royal expert and author Margaret Holder said Meghan’s private journal would be the most explosive royal book since Andrew Morton’s seismic Diana: Her True Story 30 years ago.

She said: “The revelation that Meghan rediscovered what she was writing in her journal at Frogmore Cottage must trigger warning signals to the Royal Family.

“For Meghan, a book about her time with the royals offers a great opportunity for settling scores, naming those who offended her, and hitting back at a system she didn’t understand and was unwilling to learn.

“She had enough time in the royal fold to learn secrets, some decades old, which could cause embarrassment and heartache for the Queen and her family, but could earn a fortune for Meghan.”

The Duchess spoke of her joy in keeping a journal on podcast Teenage Therapy in October 2020.

She said: “I think journaling is a really powerful thing. It allows me to reflect on where I’ve come from and with that comes a lot of perspective.”
