Rose McGowan reveals what she thought watching ‘black carpet’ at Golden Globes 2018

ROSE McGowan has revealed the disgust she felt watching her fellow celebs in a sea of black at the Golden Globes, saying the chilling moment gave her “flashbacks”.

CELEBRITY activist Rose McGowan has revealed the horror she felt at seeing Hollywood stars dressed in black at the Golden Globes, saying it felt like people “dancing on our graves”.

Speaking to ABC News following the publication of her new book Brave, the former Scream star who has accused Harvey Weinstein of rape said the movement meant to show solidarity with abuse victims gave her flashbacks.

“I feel like people are dancing on our graves,” she said about that night. “People in fancy dresses, like, black of course, posing and living it up on the red carpet.”

“The black stupid clothes that the stupid men wore. It’s a lie, and I knew they were going to trot the activists out there for PR.”

“Every time I thought about those black dresses, I would get a body flashback. Every time, even right now,” she said.

Harvey Weinstein has consistently denied he is guilty of rape, claiming the sex he had with McGowan and other women was consensual.

McGowan has been one of Weinstein’s loudest and fiercest critics, after first signalling to journalists on Twitter in 2016 she was ready to talk by opening up about her alleged “rapist”.

“When I released that tweet, that was my, like, ‘Okay, come find me, reporters. I’ve given you every single thing but a name. Let’s go.’ It was time. And that’s exactly what happened. My plan worked,” McGowan said.

It led to years of tenacious reporting from the New York Times and New Yorker with news in October last year that several women, including McGowan, had been paid settlements to keep quiet. That sparked a flood of further allegations and the #MeToo movement against sexual abuse. It culminated at the Golden Globes where celebrities wore a sea of black to stand in solidarity with the victims of sexual abuse.

At the time, McGowan lashed the “Hollywood fakery” of the event, saying: “Not one of those fancy people wearing black to honour our rapes would have lifted a finger had it not been so” in reply to a tweet from Italian actress Asia Argento highlighting that McGowan started the debate.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman said in a statement: “Mr. Weinstein denies Rose McGowan’s allegations of non-consensual sexual contact and it is erroneous and irresponsible to conflate claims of inappropriate behaviour and consensual sexual contact later regretted, with an untrue claim of rape.”

However McGowan has alleged the circumstances were tantamount to an “international rape factory” with Weinstein’s behaviour enabled by others.

“This is how it went. This is what it was. People, women, girls would be told, ‘Oh, you have a meeting,’ or, ‘Come to a party.’”

“He is a sociopathic predator. He thinks he’s done nothing wrong,” she said. “I wish just one person would’ve stood up and said, ‘No more,’ because so many people had so many chances to put a stop to this.”

McGowan’s book Brave is billed as a “memoir/manifesto” that tells the story of how she was born into the Children of God, escaped and moved to the US until being “discovered” in Los Angeles. It claims to be a “pull-no-punches” account of the entertainment industry and she has mobilised her young fans under the banner of “Rose Army” on Twitter.

Weinstein’s lawyer Benjamin Brafman refused to comment further on the allegations.
