HIS passion for the animal kingdom is matched only by his love of photography.

Eleven-year-old wildlife warrior Robert Irwin — the youngest child of the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin — has shot a stunning series wildlife photos.

From a Regent Bower bird mid-flight to a pigeon, an emu and a freshwater crocodile, and even a python, palm cockatoo and tortoise, Robert has show a keen eye for capturing animals through the lens.

And he says his interest in photography was party inspired by his late father.

“It was my dad that was the most interested in photography,” Robert said from Los Angeles.

“He was not only the most amazing dad and incredible Wildlife Warrior on the planet, but also had an extraordinary artistic mind and took breathtaking photos of nature.”

The tween said he had been taking photos since he was six years old when he used “a little digital camera”, and now aims to capture the “emotion” of his wild subjects.

Of all the animals he has photographed Robert said hummingbirds were the most camera shy.

“They are extremely fast so they are hard to photograph, but if you are patient and wait for one to land you can get a shot,” he said.

So could a photography career be on the cards for Bindi Irwin’s younger brother?

“Wildlife and nature is a privilege to photograph,” Robert said.

“As my family’s travels take us around the world, including into urban environments, I have been experimenting with architectural photography, it brings a whole new challenge and a lot of fun (at least if I am taking a photo of a building I know it won’t run away).”

Robert is a judge of National Geographic’s kids photography awards.
