Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Brixton radio station on second official outing

MEGHAN Markle has put any doubts over who the real star of the royal family is to rest in her second working visit with Prince Harry.

Meghan wows the crowd on 2nd royal visit

MEGHAN Markle has wowed large crowds who gathered to see her visit a radio station in South London with Prince Harry in her second official engagement.

The couple visited Reprezent Radio in Brixton on Tuesday afternoon — a community station where young people learn radio and broadcasting skills in a program established to prevent a rise in knife crime.

Crowds who had gathered in the cold cheered at the sight of Markle, 36, wearing an oatmeal winter coat and scarf with her hair pulled back in a bun.

She waved back and seemed surprised by the reception. Inside the station a DJ told listeners she was “gassed with a capital G” — meaning “megaexcited” — at seeing the pair.

Inside, the couple met volunteers and chatted around a table. After the 45 minute visit the couple shook hands and received flowers from the crowds gathered, many of whom had stood waiting for hours.

It’s the second working visit for the new royal couple since becoming engaged in November. They also visited the Terrence Higgins Trust on World Aids Day in Nottingham in December. Ms Markle spent Christmas with the royal family and appeared at a Sandringham church service on Christmas Day in a first for a couple that is not married.

Prince Harry has recently made a foray into the broadcasting world where he interviewed former US President Barack Obama. He also earned a rebuke from Ms Markle’s half-sister when he told a Today presenter the royal Christmas was the “family she never had.”

Her estranged half-sister Samantha Grant, 52, wrote online: “Actually she has a large family who were always there with her and for her.”

This week, Smanatha Markle said Meghan’s father Thomas Markle would walk his daughter down the aisle at the wedding.

“God forbid unless a plane crashes through his roof, he’ll be there one way or the other,” she said.

The Reprezent program has trained more than 4000 young people since it was established in 2008 with courses in radio production and editing.

It also offers young people the chance to deal with mental health issues, build confidence and gain work experience. Many of those who train there work at the station and produce their own music.

The visit comes after the royal couple were inadvertently involved in a furore after the leader of Windsor Council slammed “aggressive” begging on the streets of the city and said it should be dealt with by police before the royal wedding.

The couple will marry at St George’s Chapel on the Queen’s Windsor Estate on May 19.
