Olivia Jade slammed over Red Table Talk interview

A panel of TV stars have furiously slammed Olivia Jade’s apology interview over her family’s role in the college admissions scandal.

Olivia Jade Giannulli claims she doesn’t “want pity” for her role in the college admissions scandal, and she certainly isn’t getting it from the women of US talk show The View.

On Wednesday, the co-hosts discussed Olivia Jade’s revealing Red Table Talk interview, which they insisted put the “entitled brat’s” white privilege on full display.

“It was a step she had to take, but she’s got about 99 more before she’s earning respect back,” said Sara Haines. “Her actions will speak louder than her words.”

Yesterday, Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk aired a tense interview with Olivia Jade, the daughter of Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli.

For the first time since the college admissions scandal broke, Olivia Jade publicly apologised for hiring a counsellor to have her admitted to the University of Southern California as a rowing recruit. “What happened was wrong, and I think every single person in my family can be like, ‘That was messed up. That was a big mistake,’” she said. “What’s so important to me is to learn from the mistake. Not to now be shamed and punished and never given a second chance.”

Olivia Jade’s apology may have won over Jada Pinkett Smith (and even her mother, Gammy, who was initially upset about their guest’s presence at the table), but it didn’t succeed with The View hosts.

“I think she didn’t go far enough, but I do put most of this blame on her parents. They should have taught her better,” said Sunny Hostin, who added that because both of her children are athletes, she has seen first-hand how difficult it college recruiting really is.

“For many Black children, being an athlete is one of the only entrances to colleges. For Olivia Jade to try to take one of those legitimate spots of another athlete, I just think is deplorable. And she didn’t address that during the interview.”

Haines agreed that the bulk of the blame lies with Loughlin and Giannulli, but she declined to absolve Olivia Jade entirely. “I don’t buy the ‘I grew up in a bubble’ excuse,” she said. “She’s 20 years old. I expect more from my four-year-old.”

“I just wish I could ask their parents, ‘What was the end game here?’ You sent your children out — it’s not good for them, either,” she continued. “How can you expect this to be the right thing for your kids?”

“Well, clearly they hadn’t expected any of this,” replied Whoopi Goldberg. “You’re asking people who have ended up in jail for cheating why they didn’t teach their kids better. It’s kind of a crazy question.”

After the commercial break, Joy Behar got a chance to chime in on the topic, and she proceeded to go on a seemingly unsupported rant about the country’s education system. “I understand my own white privilege. I always have. I just think about things like that all the time,” she said. “I was a schoolteacher. I don’t think that kids in this country are learning our history. They’re not learning about history. They’re not learning about Jim Crow. They’re not learning the history of Black Americans in this country. If they did, they would then understand white privilege better. So, my suggestion is: start teaching this stuff!”

“I’d rather spend time my allotted time talking about that tiny, little, wonderful hat on top of your head than talking about Olive Jade or whomever people are,” added Ana Navarro, drawing attention to a mini Santa hat atop Whoopi’s head. “Look, I really have no interest in talking about this entitled brat and her enabling parents. They’re going to be okay. There’s a lot of people waiting in lines for food banks right now. There’s a lot of people who have lost their jobs. There’s a lot of people who have lost loved ones to COVID. So, really, I don’t have the emotional bandwidth right now to give a hoot about Olive Jade wanting to have her platform back or being accepted on social media, or whatever.”

Well, that just about puts a pin in it, doesn’t it?
