Details surrounding Prince Harry’s controversial memoir have been revealed.
Penguin Random House announced that the book will be called Spare and it will go on sale on January 10 globally – with the publisher vowing it will tell the Duke of Sussex’s story “with raw, unflinching honesty”.
The title is a sly nod to Prince Harry’s nickname as a “spare” to the “heir”, Prince William.
Prince Harry – who has reportedly received half of a A$62 million payout for his book – will read the audiobook version himself.
It had been reported that publisher Penguin Random House wanted Prince Harry’s book to be released in time for the Christmas sales rush but Prince Harry delayed release in the wake of the Queen’s death amid rumours the Duke of Sussex had “gotten cold feet”.
It was also thought that the publication might be held off until after King Charles’ coronation in May.
The New York Times first reported the book, which “has been shrouded in rumours, delays and secrecy” would be published on January 10, a date which was confirmed by Prince Harry’s London publishers on Thursday local time.
“With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief,” publisher Penguin Random House’s description reads.

“Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow — and horror.
“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling – and how their lives would play out from that point on.”
It goes on to read: “He resides in Santa Barbara, California, with his family and three dogs.”
In the description of the book, Prince Harry describes himself as “a husband, father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist”.
The duke has donated around A$2 million of the book’s proceeds to his charity Sentebale which supports children and young people affected by HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana.
He has also donated A$550,000 to children’s non-profit WellChild which helps children with complex health needs to be cared for at home.

WILL BOOK FURTHER STRAIN FAMILY TIES?
The book will be released two days after the three-year anniversary of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s official exit from the royal family on January 8, 2020.
Prince Harry faces a battle between further damaging an already strained relationship with his family and potentially hurting book sales by holding back on any claims.
Despite the strain, it was revealed this week that Prince Harry and Prince Andrew could still stand-in for King Charles if he fell ill or travelled abroad, despite them no longer being working royals.
Commenting on Prince Harry’s book, literary agent Matt Latimer told the New York Times:
“Is his goal to enhance his celebrity with a certain sector of the public, or is it to repair the rift with his family?
“Those are competing goals to some extent, and it’s hard to do both.”
The memoir will be available in English in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, South Africa and Canada.
The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages, including Spanish, Italian, German and Chinese.
“Penguin Random House is honoured to be publishing Prince Harry’s candid and emotionally powerful story for readers everywhere,” Global CEO of Penguin Random House Markus Dohle said.
“He shares a remarkably moving personal journey from trauma to healing, one that speaks to the power of love and will inspire and encourage millions of people around the world.”
‘HYPOCRITICAL BRAT’
It comes as Piers Morgan blasted Prince Harry after the book’s details were confirmed.
“CONFIRMED: Prince Privacy will hurl his latest torrent of malevolent money-making muck at the Royal Family just in time to ruin his father’s coronation as King,” Morgan said via Twitter.
“Charles should strip this petulant, selfish, greedy, hypocritical brat of all his remaining royal titles/status ASAP.”
Penguin Random House had reportedly demanded a rewrite after the first draft was considered “too touchy-feely” and placed too much focus on mental health issues.
The Sussexes sensationally quit life as working royals and moved to California nearly three years ago, before launching the Archewell Foundation and signing lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix.
