Meghan Markle makes surprise appearance on Ellen

Meghan Markle has sat down for an interview with her friend Ellen DeGeneres but royal watchers have bagged the “hypocritical” Duchess.

Meghan Markle has given another TV interview – this time with US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s chat show on Thursday (local time)

A teaser trailer was released showing Meghan telling Ellen about how happy her life was before joining the royal family.

Fascinated royal watchers around the world will be tuning in later this evening, wondering whether Meghan will repeat her shocking claims of racism at the heart of the royal family.

But Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid made a brutal dig at Meghan ahead of the interview’s airing.

After watching a teaser clip which focussed on Meghan talking about her tough upbringing, Reid said, “There we go – let’s never mind the private jets”.

She later added: “I find it’s getting increasingly hard to defend” in reference to Meghan and Prince Harry abandoning their duties in the UK citing privacy, while signing up for interview with some of American showbusiness’ biggest names.

MEGHAN, HARRY’S ‘DATE IN DISGUISE’

Meghan also told Ellen that she and Prince Harry went to a Halloween party in disguise before going public with their romance.

She told DeGeneres she attended the party with her now-husband, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Meghan claimed she wanted “one fun night on the town” as a foursome before she and Harry revealed their romance to the world.

She says: “He came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie and now her husband Jack, they came as well.

“And the four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple.”

Ellen asks: “So you went with Harry to a Halloween party and they had no idea it was the two of you?”

Meghan replies: “It was post apocalypse theme so we had all this very bizarre costuming on and we were able to have one final fun night out.”

The couple met through mutual friends in London in July 2016 and revealed their romance that November.

Sticking on the Halloween theme, Meghan also revealed how she had wanted to do “something fun” for her two children this year.

But she added: “The kids were just not into it at all. Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes.”

Meghan then beamed as she revealed baby Lilibet was a “little skunk like Flower from Bambi”.

MEGHAN OPENS UP

In a video released ahead of the show’s airing in the US on Thursday local time, an exuberant Duchess of Sussex also spoke about baby Lilibet teething and her days as a struggling actress.

DeGeneres reveals that “Lili’s now teething” before the clip cuts to Meghan with her hands up by her mouth and saying, “Anything to relieve that.”

“Tequila, anything,” the talk show host quips.

“That’s Aunty Ellen for you,” Meghan says with a smile.

“That’s why I don’t have kids,” retorts DeGeneres.

In another video posted by the Ellen show, Meghan also remembered her years as a struggling actress who would arrive at auditions in an old car that she says was falling apart.

The surprise appearance – which comes almost a year after her bombshell Oprah interview – saw Meghan reminisce about her acting life before meeting Prince Harry.

The former Suits star laughed as she recalled how she would go to auditions on the same Warner Bros lot where Ellen’s set is situated.

And Meghan laughed as she recalled how she used to climb through the boot of her old car to get to the front – because you couldn’t access it from the driver’s door.

“At a certain point the key stopped working on the driver’s side, so you couldn’t get yourself in through the door,” she explained.

“After auditions I would park at the back of the parking lot and I would open the trunk and climb in, then pull it shut behind me and crawl over all my seats to get out. That’s how I would come to and fro.

“I would park at Gate 3 and scoot on over, and what was so nice was that the security guards here would always say, ‘Break a leg, we hope you get it!’ So the drive in today was very different,” she told the talk show host.

Asked if the security guards recognised her, Meghan said: “I think they probably said it to everybody. That’s how nice they were.”

The clip appears a far cry from the tone struck in Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview back in March, in which the couple discussed their struggles as working royals.

The sit down chat marks Meghan’s first daytime talk show appearance since she married Prince Harry and joined the royal family.

It comes after she and Prince Harry rocked the Firm with their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview and aired their struggles as working royals on TV.

Meghan told how she felt suicidal in her role and said a senior royal had questioned how dark her unborn son’s skin would be.

The pair stepped back from their royal duties last year and set up their new lives in the US.

It’s now believed they will spend Christmas at their $20 million mansion in California this year – suggesting they won’t spend it with the Queen.

“There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming.

“If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now.

“But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”
