Meghan “slammed the door” in Kate Middleton’s face when her sister-in-law tried to smooth over a dispute about flower girl dresses before her royal wedding, a source claims.
A bitter tit-for-tat feud between Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, has escalated, with no clear path on how to patch things up.
Kate has been silent since Meghan claimed earlier this week she was the victim in a tearful dispute in the lead up to her wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.
The duchess was photographed looking stony faced as she drove back into Kensington Palace wearing a coronavirus mask on Monday after the show had been aired in the United States.
Reports had surfaced about six months after the wedding that Meghan had made Kate cry.
That story was often repeated, alongside a claim that Prince Harry had said “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets” to the Queen’s dressmaker Angela Kelly, who is also a close friend of the monarch.
The claims formed a picture, which Meghan disputes, that she had been difficult and unreasonable.
Meghan went to set the record straight during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, claiming that Kate had actually made her cry and had later apologised.
However, a source told The Times that Kate had been in tears, but went to smooth the dispute over the following day regardless.
She visited Nottingham Cottage, a grace and favour home in the grounds of Kate’s base at Kensington Palace where Prince Harry and Meghan were living, with a bunch of flowers.
A source told the newspaper that Meghan “slammed the door in Kate’s face”.
An article in Vanity Fair last year claimed Kate was told “it was not enough”.
Meghan disputed the “narrative” that she had made Kate cry, and argued that Buckingham Palace did not correct the record when they knew the story was untrue.
“The narrative with Kate — which didn’t happen — was really, really difficult … I think that’s when everything changed, really,” Meghan told Winfrey.
“The reverse happened. And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding. She was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. She brought me flowers and a note, apologising. She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.”
Meghan and Kate were also pictured together at Wimbledon in 2019, after Meghan had earlier watched her friend Serena Williams play with a group of university friends.
That first visit, where Meghan was not wearing the correct attire for the royal box, caused some issues among the tennis club as she had to be seated in a public area.
Her security asked people to stop taking selfies, however, it was later revealed their phone cameras were facing the court, not Meghan.
The visit with Kate, who is the patron of Wimbledon, days later was seen as a makeup that adhered to usual protocol.
‘SHE’S THE QUEEN’, HARRY TELLS MEGHAN
Prince Harry taught Meghan Markle how to curtsy just minutes before she met the Queen for the first time.
The pair were on their way to attend a lunch at Windsor Lodge when Prince Harry asked his then girlfriend if she knew how to curtsy.
Speaking with Oprah, Meghan said she was shocked, saying to Harry. “She’s your grandmother,” He responded, “She’s the Queen.”
Meghan said that when they arrived for the lunch, the couple practised curtsying outside the lodge, and Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson ran out and asked Meghan if she was ready to meet the Queen and if she knew how to curtsy.
