THIS time last year, her performance in New York’s Times Square was dubbed a “trainwreck”.
But superstar Mariah Carey has proven she’s a showbiz trouper by ringing in 2018 in spectacular style.
It was a triumphant performance that had its fair share of diva-like attitude.
In true Mimi style, Carey appeared to be channelling her idol Marilyn Monroe in a gold sequinned dress and white fur coat as she performed a medley of Vision of Love and Hero.
She was reportedly paid $3.5 million for her performance, which lasted around ten minutes.
After the first song, the native New Yorker uttered a bizarre statement that left some baffled.
Carey lamented the lack of hot tea onstage to combat the cold temperatures, saying, “They told me there would be hot tea.”
She then declared, “I’m gonna be just like everybody else with no hot tea. We’ll just have to rough it.”
The entertainer was back for a repeat performance on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest show.

The star obviously saw the funny side, later posting an image of herself daintily sipping tea from a white china cup in her hotel room.

was billed as a comeback performance for the star after last year’s NYE gig, which was plagued by numerous technical problems.
Last year, sound problems affected Carey’s performance, with the singer unable to hear the backup vocals audible on the live broadcast, causing her to get flustered.
Then when Carey made the transition into her second number — her 1991 hit Emotions — she paused to tell the audience: “We didn’t have a (sound) check for this song, so we’ll just say it went to No. 1 and that’s what it is, okay?”
The 47-year-old pop diva had a trying time in 2017: she spent most of it embroiled in a nasty financial dispute with ex-fiance James Packer.
After a long and protracted legal battle, the Aussie billionaire reportedly forked out millions to Carey following their ugly break-up.
