It’s been the year that had to be lived to be believed for the Kardashians. This is how 2015 has fared for reality TV’s most famous sisters.
KRIS AND CAITLYN
While nude shoots, the birth of Saint West and Kylie’s lips defined 2015 for the Kardashian and Jenner sisters, perhaps the most compelling story this year was Caitlyn Jenner’s gender transition.
In June, Caitlyn was introduced to the world on the cover of Vanity Fair.
“If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life,’” Caitlyn told the magazine. The former Olympic champion’s transition was documented on a two-part Kardashians special, and she starred in her own E! reality series, I Am Cait.
But it was not without drama. Cait’s ex-wife, Kris Jenner, was upset over comments Caitlyn made to Vanity Fair about their 25-year marriage, prompting a divide between the family. “We had this great life and not one nice word,” Kris said. The former couple has since put it behind them, celebrating Thanksgiving together last month.
Momager Kris celebrated her 60th birthday with a $2 million party, is dating Corey Gamble, 35, and has supported her reclusive son, Rob, who is struggling with his weight. The grandmother of five has also been there for her former son-in-law Lamar Odom and Kourtney’s ex, Scott Disick, who she visited in rehab.
But the fact Kris is still in contact with Odom promoted Kim to call her a “bad mother”. “You saying that Lamar deserves a second chance, that is so wrong, that’s being a bad mother,” Kim told Kris on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
KHLOE
She called it the “worst year of my life”. Khloe Kardashian, 31, lost about 15kg, started dating again (there was her short-lived reunion with rapper French Montana and new romance with basketballer James Harden), wrote a book (Strong Looks Better Naked), and posed in a revealing photo shoot for Complex magazine (styled by her sister, Kim Kardashian) and another photographed by her sister, Kendall.
Unfortunately, that was all outdone when her ex-husband, Lamar Odom, had a drug overdose at a Las Vegas brothel.
She spent months at his bedside nursing him through his recovery, developed a staph infection, and was then accused of faking her thanksgiving “cooking” posts.
Add to that a naked shoot, a social media feud with Amber Rose and that time she wore a niqab (Muslim veil) in Dubai, sparking outrage with the subsequent selfie she captioned “Habibi love” on Instagram.
KIM
Compared to Khloe, Kim has kind of had a low-key year.
Kim, 35, gave birth to Saint West, her second baby with husband Kanye West, born on December 5.
Most of 2015 was defined by Kim’s pregnancy, which included some seriously eyebrow-raising ensembles (even when they had designer tags like Givenchy) and led her to tip the scales at 86kg.
Her book of selfies, dubbed Selfish, was critically panned, while she declared pregnancy had made her feel “fat as f ...”.
She also said her youngest sister Kylie Jenner, 18, who is fast-becoming the most influential “Kardashian” (even though she’s a Jenner), had “dethroned” her.
“I need some time off. I mean honey, let’s be real, you’ve got to put in a few more years before you actually dethrone me,” Kim said in a video titled You’re In Bed With Kim and Kylie.
“But I give my baton to you. Who better to pass on knowledge to my baby sister, rather than a random non-family member.”
Shout out to Kim and Kanye’s daughter, North West, two, who continued to show us all how to dress, wearing custom Balmain to ballet.
KOURTNEY
She used to be the most boring Kardashian - not any more. Kourtney Kardashian, 36, finally ended her nine-year relationship with Scott Disick, only to rebound with Justin Bieber. THE JUSTIN BIEBER.
She hit the gym in the wake of her Disick split (there were those racy photos of Disick and his ex, Chloe Bartoli, in Monte Carlo in July) and posed naked.
As Kendall Jenner put it on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians: “I just don’t think Kourtney realises how bomb she is right now”.
Then news broke that the mother-of-three is “casually hooking up” with Bieber, 21.
KENDALL
She modelled for Chanel and Victoria’s Secret and managed to keep her private life out of the gossip headlines.
2015 was the year Kendall Jenner, 20, really became a supermodel.
Apart from walking for US lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret for the first time, she kept the attention on her work, the two fashion lines (for Forever New and Topshop) that she launched with her sister Kylie, and her supermodel BFFs Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, who dubbed themselves “Cake”.
She saved the drama for the family’s long-running E! reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where she labelled Kylie a “c ...” over a fight about clothes and famously banned her sisters from attending the Victoria’s Secret runway show in New York.
KYLIE
Between her headline-making lips (yeah, she’s admitted to fillers), controversial on-off relationship with rapper Tyga, and record-breaking Kylie Jenner Lip Kit (it sold out in, like, seconds), Kylie Jenner has owned 2015.
The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner brood turned 18 (her birthday presents included a $350,000 Ferrari), moved out into a $2.7 million Calabasas mansion, and a crashed Norwegian clothing retailer’s website after posting a photo wearing their onesie to her 45.4 million Instagram followers.
Her app has reportedly been the most popular out of all her sisters (Khloe, Kourtney, Kim and Kendall also launched apps this year), she ruled Snapchat, and raised eyebrows almost weekly, including with her steamy performance in Tyga’s video for Stimulated and when she posed in a wheelchair for the cover of Interview magazine.
“I always try to encourage girls that look up to me ... to, like, not want to be exactly like me,” she told this writer in November, in an interview with News Corp Australia.
“I don’t want to encourage girls to have blue hair and do whatever I do.
“I want to encourage them to just totally be themselves because that’s what I’ve always done.”
So what will 2016 have in store for Kylie, Khloe, Kim, Kourtney and Kendall? The rest is still unwritten (to quote The Hills).
