Actress Katherine Heigl, who is the mother of two adopted children with husband Josh Kelley, is pregnant.
“We’ve known for awhile that we wanted to add to our family and frankly didn’t really care how we chose to do that. We were considering adoption again, fostering, or pregnancy if possible,” Heigl shared on her website, Those Heavenly Days, on Thursday morning.
Noting that she’s 37 years old, she continued, “Seeing as I have never been pregnant and as my OB/GYN reminded me last year, I’m of advanced maternal age, I wasn’t sure pregnancy was even in the cards for us. Turns out it was very much in the cards!”
The pair is expecting a boy.
Heigl and singer Kelley, 36, adopted daughter Naleigh from South Korea in 2009 and then Adelaide in 2012.
The former Grey’s Anatomy star has previously said of the couple’s decision to adopt, “My sister Meg is Korean, and my parents adopted her three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea.”
“We have talked about having biological children as well, but we decided to adopt first. I just wanted to be a mom,” she told Scholastic’s Parent & Child in 2012.
Motherhood shows a softer side of Heigl, who has a reputation for being difficult to work with in Hollywood.
