James Bond actor Daniel Craig thinks leaving kids an inheritance is 'distasteful'

James Bond star Daniel Craig has joined the growing list of celebrities who don't want to leave an inheritance for their kids.

Daniel Craig is joining the list of wealthy celebrities who don't want to leave their children with a large inheritance.

The James Bond actor, who has a net worth of $220 million, said he thinks the idea of inheritance is “distasteful”.

“I don't want to leave great sums to the next generation. I think inheritance is quite distasteful, ”he told the UK's Candis Magazine .

“My philosophy is get rid of it or give it away before you go.”

He added, “Isn't there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you've failed?”

Craig, 53, referenced billionaire US industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who died in 1919 and gave away billions of dollars prior to his death, adding “(It) shows how rich he was because I'll bet he kept some of it too.”

The British star, who is anticipating the delayed November release of his final Bond film No Time To Die, welcomed a daughter with his wife of 10 years, Rachel Weisz, in 2018.

He also shares 29-year-old daughter Ella with his ex-wife Fiona Loudon, whom he was married to for two years in 1992.

He's not the only bankable figure to dismiss the idea of leaving an inheritance.

Action star Jackie Chan, who is worth a cool $480 million, has pledged to give at least half of his fortune away to charity.

However his son Jaycee, who was born in 1982, will not be receiving a big share of the other half.

“If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money,” Chan was quoted saying in 2011 during a red carpet interview.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who are both worth about $180 billion each, have also declared they intend to give away their exorbitant wealth.

“It's not a favour to kids to have them have huge sums of wealth,” Gates told This Morning in 2016 of his three children. “It distorts anything they might do, creating their own path.”

Meanwhile Zuckerberg's two daughters are only receiving 1 per cent of his fortune.
