Hugh Sheridan engaged: Actor proposes to boyfriend Kurt Roberts

The Packed To The Rafters star is engaged and over the moon after proposing to his boyfriend Kurt Reynolds in a very public manner.

Hugh Sheridan has proposed to boyfriend Kurt Roberts during his stage show at the Adelaide Film Festival.

The Packed To The Rafters star got down on one knee and asked Roberts, 29, who was sitting in the front row, to marry him during his performance in Hughman on Friday night.

“I just got engaged!” an excited Sheridan yelled to the audience afterwards, The Advertiser reports.

Sheridan and Roberts’ loved ones have since gone online to congratulate the couple, with MCoBeauty founder Shelley Sullivan writing on Instagram: “He said yes. Of course he did! Congratulations @hugh_sheridan @kurtroberts_ We are so thrilled for you both!”

“It’s not every day one of your besties proposes to the love of his life @hugh_sheridan @kurtroberts_ so excited for you both,” Sarah Abbott wrote.

The couple are believed to have been dating since last December, with Roberts sharing a photo of himself and Sheridan on Instagram in January with the caption: “2021’s off to a good start.”

Last October Sheridan, 35 addressed his sexuality publicly for the first time in a powerful essay for Stellar, revealing he has been in relationships with both men and women but doesn’t like to label himself.

Sheridan said he had been encouraged to keep his sexuality under wraps for the sake of his career but now feels a “responsibility” to speak out.

He added that for years he “protested with silence” for LGBTQIA+ equality, but has now decided to speak out to send an important message.

“I realised that if I never addressed these issues, if I maintained a silent protest, then people would always think I had something to hide or was denying others that expression,” he wrote.

“In many ways, I wish I didn’t have to write this, but I feel a responsibility to others who may come after me. By sharing my story now, and becoming more transparent, maybe I can help to give others who are private a break. We might live and let them live as they wish.

He concluded: “I believe labels are for clothes, not for people.”

Sheridan recently revealed he met Roberts at a party in November and felt an “immediate attraction” to him — despite him showing “zero interest”.

The pair got to know each other through mutual friends, with Sheridan saying the early days of their relationship were “very old-school”.

“There was no rushing. We just went out for dinners and took things very slowly and I did everything by the book because I knew, deep down, that this guy was a keeper,” he told The Advertiser.
