WELL played Julia, well played.
Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard posted an adorable childhood photo on Twitter as part of #TBT (Throw back Thursday).
Gillard said she decided to share the picture to celebrate International Women’s Day.
“#TBT my school pic!” she wrote alongside the image. “On #IWD2015 Stand#UpForSchool to empower our girls: Join us at http://upforschool.org JG”
To celebrate Gillard’s trip down memory lane, here are some fun facts from our 27th Prime Minister’s childhood:
• She went to school in Adelaide after emigrating from Wales with her family when she was just four years old.
• She was a smart cookie from early on: “Mum had made sure that both Alison and I could read and write before we went to school,” said Gillard to Australian Story.
• She sucked at P.E: “I was always hopeless at sport, completely hopeless at sport.”
• She was a bit of a prankster: “One time in Home Economics ... we took a whole thing of soap powder and shoved it in the one washing machine load. We were pretty confident that nothing was happening because the load was just going round, until we realised that out of the drain behind us, all this sort of soap was bubbling out. So one of the girls whips off her school jumper, chucks it over the drain so that we can hide the immediate evidence. And we did get into a fair bit of trouble for that, because obviously teachers don’t get fooled by things like wet jumpers being thrown over soap powder that’s bubbling up out of a grate.”
