Russian President Vladimir Putin sends warm message to King Charles

One of the first leaders to reach out to King Charles was Russia’s Vladimir Putin in a surprisingly direct message, while Donald Trump has shared his tribute to The Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96: Her life and lasting legacy

Russian President Vladimir Putin wished King Charles well after the Accession Council Ceremony, becoming one of the first world leaders to do so.

Putin issued a two sentence statement from the Kremlin on Saturday that read:

“Please accept my sincere sincere congratulations on Your Accession to the throne.” The note was posted online by the Russian Embassy to the UK.

“I wish Your Majesty success, good health and all the best,” it said.

Putin had earlier paid tribute to The Queen.

“For many decades, Elizabeth II rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as authority on the world stage. I wish you courage and perseverance in the face of this heavy, irreparable loss,” Putin wrote on Friday.

‘EXTRAORDINARY HONOUR’: TRUMP

Donald Trump has written a personal account of his memories of The Queen, which he said was “one of the most extraordinary honours of my life”.

“I grew up in a household where Queen Elizabeth — her grace, her charm, her nobility — were deeply admired, especially by my mother, who came from Scotland,” he wrote in the piece for the Daily Mail.

“Her Majesty had a sharp mind, missed nothing, and always knew exactly what to say.

“That same week, the 75th anniversary of D-Day, we sat side-by-side to honour the sacrifice of the British and American warriors who fought and bled together in the Second World War.

I will forever be grateful for the privilege of getting to know this unparalleled leader,” Mr Trump wrote.

He revealed he asked her which PM was her favourite.

“She told me she liked them all.”

“No matter what challenges came, she was always there for her people—resolute and unflappable, stabilising and reassuring by her very presence. In the face of all adversity, she embodied the uniquely British attribute of a firm and quiet resolve.”

Mr Trump said she was “an icon to the world, a legend in her time”.

The qualities that served Queen Elizabeth so well as monarch also endeared her to the hearts of countless people all over the world.

BORIS JOHNSON TRIBUTE

In an emotional and candid tribute to the Queen in Parliament on Friday, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson told of a “humble” woman who used tupperware and who refused to give up on her one-bar heater.

‘One... quality, of course, was her humility, her single bar-electric fire, Tupperware-using, refusal to be grand.

“And she drove herself in her own car, with no detectives and no bodyguards, bouncing around at alarming speed over the Scottish landscape to the total amazement of the ramblers and the tourists,” he said.

Describing the moment the BBC interviewed him last week, and asked him to talk in the past tense, he said: “And the cameras stopped rolling. And I’m afraid I simply teared up and I couldn’t go on.

“I was so overcome with sadness, that I had to ask them to go away. And I know that today there are countless people in this country and around the world who’ve experienced the same sudden axis of unexpected emotion.

“We are coming to understand in her death, the full magnitude of what she did for us

...to be the person so globally trusted, that her image should be on every unit of our currency, every postage stamp, the person in whose name or justice is dispensed in this country, every law passed to every minister of the crown, swears allegiance, and for whom every member of our armed services is pledged if necessary, to lay down their lives,” Mr Johnson went on.

“I can tell you when she saw off her 14th prime minister and welcomed her 15th, she was as radiant and as knowledgeable, and as fascinated by politics, as ever.

“I remember her innocent joy more than 10 years ago, after the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, when I told her that the leader of a friendly Middle Eastern country seemed actually to believe that she had jumped out of a helicopter in a pink dress and parachuted into the stadium.

“And I remember her equal pleasure of being told just a few weeks ago that she had been in a smash hit with Paddington Bear (in a short film for the Platinum Jubilee).

“And the fact that today, we can say with such confidence, God, save the king is a tribute to him but above all to Elizabeth the Great, who worked so hard for the good of our country”.
