Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr has been secretly supporting Armie Hammer since his swift career downfall, it’s been reported today.
The claim comes after Hammer, whose career fortunes nosedived last year when multiple women accused him of emotional and sexual abuse, was spotted in his new job – selling timeshare holidays to tourists from an office in the Cayman Islands.
Now, Vanity Fair reports that Downey Jr stepped in last year to pay for Hammer to spend nearly six months in an expensive Florida rehabilitation facility called the Guest House.
The facility “cater[s] in particular to clients who have high-stress or high-visibility lifestyles such as business executives, politicians and entertainment professionals,” according to its website.

It’s unclear how well the two stars knew each other before Hammer’s downfall – but Downey Jr has his own very public history of addiction and recovery.
He had in the past also offered similar help to Mel Gibson when his career took a nosedive due to alleged bad behaviour.
Call Me By Your Name star Hammer suffered a spectacular fall from public grace early last year when various women, including exes Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze, came forward with claims of emotional and sexual abuse. Screenshots of messages from women appearing to depict Hammer as having cannibalistic fetishes also emerged on social media.
One woman accused Hammer of rape, which led to an LAPD investigation that has since concluded with no charges pressed.
Hammer, who was married at the time of many of the alleged incidents, has strenuously denied all accusations, claiming any interactions with any women were consensual.
But the fallout for the actor was swift, and he fled Hollywood to the Cayman Islands, where his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers lives with their two children.
Now, the star is reportedly “totally broke” and selling timeshare properties from an office cubicle.
“He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working at a cubicle,” a source told Variety. “The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”
Hammer was initially spotted outside the timeshare sales office in late June after reports he was working there.
A photo shows the actor clad in a blue polo shirt while he worked in the office – and onlookers reported that he was sitting with a couple and going over pricing for a unit.
