All the weirdest Met Gala red carpet 2017 looks
CELEBS are rocking bare bums, fat suits, bridal veils and discarded clumps of their own hair. It’s called FASHION, dahhhhling.

AH, the Met Gala. The one day of the year celebs are free to go full Hunger Games on us: They’re the flamboyantly fashioned residents of The Capitol, and the rest of us are all the plebs from some far-flung district peering in at their lavish displays of wealth and excess.
This year’s event is themed after Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo, so expect bright colours and bold, abstract shapes. All of it ridiculous, painful and almost totally unwearable for anyone in the real world.
First off, arguably the most perfect, memorable photo of the night. As pop superstar Madonna and her fashion designer date Jeremy Scott pose for the wall of photographers in the foreground, there’s American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson in the back, thinking... what exactly? ‘Bitch, it’s Madonna?’ Who knows, but the expression is priceless.
Serena Williams kept it simple in emerald green, showing off her growing baby bump:
Elsewhere it was the battle of the big pop divas. Rihanna seemed almost swallowed up in her kooky, costumey ensemble:
Madonna went Full Metal Jacket in this military frock:
Katy Perry was an early attention-getter, walking the red carpet in a veil-slash-train that’s just begging to be tripped on.
But what’s that scrawled across her face? Witness? Waitress? Wafer? Wotnot? Answers on the back of a postcard, please.
Rocker Courtney Love shared a kiss with her grown-up daughter, Frances Bean Cobain:
Actress Priyanka Chopra donned a trench coat with a train so big it could cover up a sinkhole:
Wife of music maverick (and Met Gala 2017 co-chair) Pharrell Williams, Helen Lasichanh has provided one of the event’s most striking red carpet looks in an ensemble that seems tailor-made to launch a million internet memes.

Even the reporters on the sidelines are getting into the high fashion spirit:

Jaden Smith came toting this season’s must-have accessory: His own hair. Smith recently lopped off his dreadlocks, but apparently thought they deserved to come along and enjoy the party.
P. Diddy had a rest on the red carpet, laying out on the stairs and letting the photographers do their thing:

Shout-out to supermodel Adriana Lima, putting her best assets on display:
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening? Kim Kardashian’s non-event of an ensemble. Is this the new-look Kim K?
“It certainly ain’t the Logies! Without question the Met Gala is the Olympics of the fashion world, with every participant pretty extraordinary in their own way, but they all can’t be winners,” says news.com.au fashion commentator Melissa Hoyer.
She says this year’s ‘theme’, respected Japanese label Comme des Garcons, had been lost on a few of the celebs.
“The Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo is renowned for an architectural, distressed, often bulky, punk-like and art curator approach to fashion: One that be difficult to pull off,” she says.
“Us mere mortals — aside from Lee Lin-Chin — can hardly wear it, let alone celebs who have serious stylists doing all the hard work.
“That said, many of the Met’s guests took an element of the Commes look — structure, over-sizing, bulky fabrics and floral prints — and worked that into their look.
“Others, meanwhile, just wore what looked like Oscar red carpet gowns as opposed an ode to an existing designer.
“Oh, and then there was Madonna.”
