Don't miss out on the headlines from Red Carpet. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The Oscars may be just around the corner (one week to be exact), but don’t expect Hollywood to save their best looks until then.
All our favourite stars were in full glam for the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards today at LA’s Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall as they celebrated this past year’s best offerings in TV and film, as voted by their peers. The ceremony streams locally on Netflix from midday AEDT – and we’re live blogging all the highlights here.
It’s the last fashion test-run before their date with the little gold statue on March 3. Not that they needed anymore practice – they all looked sensational.
From sculptural to sheer gowns, the stars expertly worked the red carpet, with Selena Gomez leading the way in her elegant, off-the-shoulder dress. She and the cast of Only Murders in the Building took home Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Hollywood royalty Jamie Lee Curtis, who stars in the acclaimed The Last Showgirl, also commanded our attention in feathers and sequins, while fellow A-lister Brooke Shields was shining bright in her sequined gown.
Here are other most notable looks from the red carpet:
Demi Moore has been the one to watch this awards season, having recently won a Golden Globe for her role in The Substance. And she delivered at the SAG Awadrs too while wearing this peplum number, winning Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role.
Mikey Madison’s porcelain skin perfectly complemented her steel-coloured gown. She is also up for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for Anora.
Zooey Deschanel was stunning in black as was iconic singer Sheryl Lee Ralph.
From one icon to another, Jane Fonda looked immaculate in a coral creation.
Adrien Brody and fashion designer Georgina Chapman are couple goals on the red carpet.
Ariana Grande channelled her Wicked character Glinda, wearing a pale pink chiffon gown with floral appliques running down the front.
Before Zoe Saldana went on to win Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Emilia Perez, she walked the red carpet with poise.
Nobody Wants This star Justine Lupe added some colour to the event.
Kerry Washington was a vision in her gown adorned with cascading beads.
Jodie Foster, who was up for Outstanding Female Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series for True Detective – Night Country, knows less is more, adding just two gold cuffs to her maroon ensemble.
While Foster when for understated, there was nothing subtle about Carry On star Danielle Deadwyler’s gown.
Going strapless in black is Elle Fanning, whose movie A Complete Unknown is up for Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture.
Fanning’s A Complete Unknown co-star Timothée Chalamet was hard to miss in his neon-green shirt and leathers combo.
Actress Keke Palmer added a golden accent to her otherwise plain black dress.
Kaitlyn Dever, the star of Netflix’s breakout hit Apple Cider Vinegar about Aussie cancer con artist Belle Gibson, wowed in a sheer, beaded peach gown complete with intricate beading.
Fellow Netflix darling, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, wore a similarly coloured dress, looking pretty in peach in her satin frock.
Wearing a similar colour palette, iconic The Nanny star Fran Drescher, who is also the President of SAG-AFTRA, meant business in her satin suit.
Pamela Anderson proved you don’t need to ramp up the make-up gun. She looked just as radiant with a fresh face.
Wicked star Cynthia Erivo may have looked grey, but there’s no dampening her mood after getting nominated for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role.
Her Wicked co-star Michelle Yeoh looked ethereal in her whimsical dress.
Keri Russell showed a touch of thigh in her one-shoulder gown. The actress was nominated for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in The Diplomat.
It was Shōgun star Anna Sawai that took out the award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series. The actress, who also won an Emmy and a Golden Golden for the series, showed off some cheeky side-boob in her black and red dress.
Baby Reindeer stars Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning were also crowd favourites at the SAG. They come fresh off their success at the Golden Globes, and tonight Gunning also took out the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television category.
No, the Colour Purple star Colman Domingo did not rock purple, but he did look regal by accessorising with a chic scarf.
Nicola Coughlan added a touch of vixen to her otherwise sweet baby blue dress, teaming it was black leather gloves.
Red, White & Royal Blue star heart-throb Taylor Zakhar Perez looked dapper as he wore the suit but left the tie at home.
Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson rocked an embroidered dress.
Sex Education star Gillian Anderson stunned in her black mesh gown complete with floral prints.
Musical feature Wicked leads the charge with five nominations on the evening, including acting nods for its stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey.
TV series Shōgun came out ahead in the TV categories, also landing five nominations.
We only had one Aussie in the running for a SAG Award this year: Cate Blanchett, who was nominated for Lead Actress in a TV series or Limited Series for Disclaimer, a psychological thriller on Apple TV+ about a journalist whose own life story she tried to bury resurfaces and threatens to destroy her family and career.
Nicole Kidman missed out on a nomination for Babygirl, despite receiving widespread acclaim for her role in the film, and Hollywood heavyweight Angelina Jolie was another notable oversight in the Lead Actress category for her role in Maria.
However, their fellow actress Demi Moore found herself a big winner on the night, winning Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for The Substance.
She beat the likes of Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) and Mikey Madison (Anora).
