A longtime member of The Wiggles has announced the birth of her twin girls.
Red Wiggle Caterina Mete, who began her career with the beloved children’s group two decades ago, welcomed daughters Gigi and Dolly on June 25, sharing sweet photos on Instagram Thursday.
“I am so thrilled to announce the arrival of my precious twin girls, Dolly and Gigi,” Mete, 43, wrote.
“My heart is overflowing with happiness as I welcome to the world my two little miracles.
“Thank you all for your love and support during this special time.”
Mete, who took over the red skivvy alongside Simon Pryce in 2021, began her career with the group 20 years ago as a friend to Dorothy the Dinosaur, before taking on roles including Head of Wardrobe, Dance Captain and as a choreographer.
Mete announced in February she was expecting her first children after undergoing a long IVF journey with an anonymous sperm donor.
The Wiggles released a statement following her birth announcement, declaring the group was “thrilled”.
“Her journey to motherhood has been truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to meet these adorable new additions to The Wiggles’ family,” a statement read.
Fellow Wiggles took to the comment section of Mete’s post to congratulate her on the happy news, with Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie writing, “Yahhhh Kitty.... How beautiful. Double happy.”
Pryce added, “Congratulations Kitty! Can’t wait to meet Dolly and Gigi soon.”
The performer fronted her last show for The Wiggles, alongside fellow members Anthony Field, Gillespie, Pryce, Tsehay Hawkins, Evie Ferris, John Pearce and Lucia Field, in April before going on maternity leave.
Speaking on Stellar’s Something To Talk About podcast that same month, Mete opened up about performing for the troupe as the first ever female “pregnant Wiggle”.
“It’s quite beautiful what The Wiggles bring to children, and it’s nice to be a part of that journey,” she said.
“I’m the first pregnant Wiggle, essentially. Obviously the boys have had babies, but it’s their wife or partner who’s been pregnant.
“[At] shows it’s announced at the start that I’m pregnant in case people didn’t know, and it’s nice that families can talk to their children and say, ‘Oh, she’s having a baby, like how Mummy was.’ It’s nice teaching children about that, too.”
