Queen Mary may be fresh off a whirlwind tour of Brazil but if she felt any jet lag she was able to let it go when she put on a stunning display which echoed that of Frozen’s Queen Anna when she met with Iceland’s president.
The Australian born queen and her Danish royal husband King Frederik welcomed the President of Iceland, Her Excellency Halla Tómasdóttir and her husband Björn Skúlason on a state visit to Denmark.
Queen Mary’s flowing purple dress, accessorised with a matching headband and flowing shawl drew comparisons to Queen Anna from Disney’s Frozen.
The presidential couple joined the Danish royals to lay a ceremonial wreath before being welcomed at an official reception.
Royal fans gushed over photographs of the occasion, posted to the Danish royal official Instagram account.
But some couldn’t help but giggle at the discrepancy in the outfits worn by the representatives of the two nations.
It is currently about 14C in Denmark, which is practically tropical compared to the 4C conditions the Icelandic leader had travelled from.
“Funny to see the King and Queen wearing coats and scarfs, while the presidential couple is just wearing their suits. It says something about the climate/temperatures, they are used to in Iceland, compared to us down here,” one Dane noted.
“Absolutely rightly observed! I’m sitting up here in a T-shirt inside, 4-5 degrees outside, southern Iceland,” an Icelander chimed in.
It’s not the first time our Mary has turned to turned to Disney Frozen royalty for wardrobe inspiration.
When celebrating her 50th birthday in 2022, the royal’s official portraits to commemorate the occasion were instantly compared to the sparkling gown worn by Queen Elsa.
The state visit by Iceland’s president comes just days after Queen Mary returned from a highly successful solo tour of Brazil.
On her four-day tour of the South American nation, Queen Mary visited the Amazon and bottle fed a manatee calf.
