Royal fans spot blunder in Meghan Markle’s new Instagram video

Fans have noticed a blooper in Meghan Markle’s much-vaunted return to social media while the Duchess again found herself at the centre of criticism over another part of her post.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has rejoined Instagram

Social media users have noticed a blooper in Meghan Markle’s new Instagram video which appears to show that she filmed her perfectly “casual” beach clip more than once.

In the video, Ms Markle dons an all-white outfit and ran on the beach, writing “2025” in the sand before smiling and running back off camera.

However, less than 24 hours after the video was posted, some pointed out that the final cut wasn’t her first take.

At the start of the video, Ms Markle is seen running toward the water before stopping to write “2025” in the sand.

But eagle-eyed social media users noticed that the Duchess ran past another “2025” which is seen in the nearby sand, confirming that it wasn’t her first time doing so.

Not surprisingly, Ms Markle’s return to Instagram on New Year’s Day created a frenzy online with fans and critics of the 43-year-old dissecting the 30-second clip for any insight into the controversial Duchess.

The former actress posted a video to the previously unused account @meghan on New Year’s Day which has been shrouded in secrecy since it was set up almost a year ago.

Ms Markle, who has been largely absent from social media since quitting the Royal Family in 2020, posted a video seemingly filmed by her husband, Prince Harry, on the beach in California, where the pair reside with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Following her return to social media, Ms Markle’s profile was given a blue verification tick on Thursday local time.

The former royal already boasts close to 850,000 followers on Instagram — despite her first post going online barely 24 hours ago.

As well as her first post, she updated her account’s profile photo to a black-and-white shot of herself smiling in an elegant white dress.

But she has copped some criticism for turning comments on the post off.

It comes as fans were divided over Ms Markle’s decision to turn comments off on the post.

One person branded has as a “coward” for turning them off, while others praised her. “Meghan Markle is still a coward. [She] turned off comments” one woman said on X.

“A narcissist always turns the comments off. A girl has got to stay relevant,” another user said.

Someone else responded to a post that said they hoped Ms Markle would be able to “connect with fans” on her account.

“Connect with fans? She disabled the comments,” they wrote.

Others, however, were in favour of the former royal for turning them off.

“Thank goodness she’s keeping comments off,” one user said, while a different person agreed, “I’m glad she turned off those comments for peace of mind.”

“Good on Meghan for turning off the comments on her IG. She doesn’t need any toxicity from weirdos,” someone else wrote.

It’s believed that Markle kept her account dormant after initially setting it up in June 2022.

Previously, Markle shared an Instagram account with her husband under the @sussexroyal handle.

However, the duo departed from that account in March 2020 after stepping down as senior working members of the royal family and moving to the US.

Markle also shut down her social media accounts in January 2018 after getting engaged to Prince Harry.

“Ms Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years, however as she has not used them for some time she has taken the decision to close them,” a Kensington Palace source said at the time.

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, Markle’s social media comeback is part of her broader plan to control the narrative surrounding her public image, which has taken a tumble in recent years.

He also claims that Markle’s new personal Instagram account will play a part in promoting her upcoming business ventures, including the impending launch of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
