Kate Middleton reportedly attended a secret 24-hour music festival held over the weekend, marking the first time she has ever attended such an event.

The Houghton Festival was held on the Norfolk estate in the UK owned by her and husband Prince William’s friend – and it is said to be posher than your usual music festival.

According to the Daily Mail, Kate was reportedly having dinner at the home of their Norfolk neighbours, the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, David and Rose, when she was invited to the “very classy, upper-class” dance event.

David and Rose live in the grand Houghton Hall, a 1000-acre estate that was hosting the Houghton Festival on their grounds at the time. The royal couple currently reside nearby at Anmer Hall.

“After dinner, one of the guests suggested that Catherine go to the festival,” a source told the outlet. “Catherine was nervous about the idea, but after much discussion with her protection officers, she went with lots of security. William wasn’t there.”

It’s not clear why Prince William did not accompany his wife to the festival. But it was the Glorious Twelfth this past weekend – the annual event celebrated on August 12 that signifies the start of the red grouse shooting season – so it’s believed he could have been on a hunting trip with friends.

Houghton Festival was first launched in 2017 by DJ Craig Richards and it is hailed as Britain’s only 24-hour music festival.

The event runs from Thursday to Sunday and attracts crowds upwards of 12,000 people. Two-hundred artists perform throughout the event, across 13 stages.

The outing comes two months after Prince William was seen dancing at London nightclub Koko. The future King of England was spotted enjoying himself in a private box at the Camden hotspot alongside two friends, including nightclub owner Guy Pelly, who is the godfather of William’s youngest son, Prince Louis.

The outing is said to have marked the Prince of Wales’ 41st birthday.

Kate is no stranger to the party life herself. Before marrying into the royal family in 2011, she was a prominent feature on the London social scene, often seen stumbling out of nightclubs into a waiting taxi in the early hours.
