Sabrina Carpenter kicked off the European leg of her Short n Sweet Tour in Dublin, Ireland – the hometown of her actor ex-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan.
As she took to the stage at Dublin’s 3arena on Monday night, the US pop star couldn’t help but take a brutal swipe at the Saltburn star in front of his home crowd.
After performing a number of her chart-topping songs including Espresso, Feather and Taste, she belted out Please, Please, Please – a song she wrote about the Keoghan.
But first the 25-year-old playfully addressed the elephant in the room.
“Dublin, it’s so lovely to be here,” she told the crowd, as per the Mirror. “You all look and sound amazing. But my goodness, these Irish boys are hard work.”
Keoghan even played Carpenter’s love interest in the music video released in June last year. The song is about a guy who she begs not to make a fool out of her and be the “stand-up guy” she knows he can be.
However, things turned sour between the pair in December when they broke up after one year of dating. While People magazine reported that they split because both are “young and career-focused”, cheating rumours quickly surrounded the former couple.
Keoghan faced allegations he cheated on Carpenter with TikTok influencer Breckie Hill after she reposted cryptic videos fuelling the rumour mill.
The actor was quick to refute the “lies and hatred” being spread about him on social media.
“I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond too,” he penned at the time. “I have to respond now because it’s gettin to a place where there are too many lines being crossed.”
“I deactivated my [ Instagram ] account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work. The messages I have received no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.”
He added, “Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for. Talking about how I was a heroine baby and how I grew up and dragging my dear mother into it also. Knocking on my grannies door. Sitting outside my baby boys house intimidating them. That’s crossing a line.”
