Game of Thrones star confirms shock split from Guy Pearce: ‘It’s been years’

Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten has shared the shock news this week.

Australian actor Guy Pearce and Carice van Houten, the mother of his son, have split.

The Dutch actress confirmed their split, and revealed on social media that the pair have remained close as they co-parent.

“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear,” she wrote on her Instagram Story underneath a photo of the pair.

“He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years.“I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives - our beautiful son. And his hamster. The end.”

The pair started dating just months after Pearce split from his ex-wide Kate Mestitz in 2015.

They went on to have a child together named Monte who was born in 2016.

Rumours of their split first began last month when Pearce revealed during an interview that his first wife was the “greatest” love of his life, failing to mention van Houten entirely.

“My ex-wife Kate was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child Monte,” he told The Guardian.

Meanwhile, Pearce shared last year that he doubts he would be cast in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert if it were made today.

The 1994 movie follows two drag queens played by Hugo Weaving and Pearce and a transgender woman played by Terence Stamp as they traverse across the Australian Outback.

Pearce who played Adam Whitely, a flamboyant drag queen who performed under the name Felicia Jollygoodfellow, won rave reviews for the role three decades ago.

“I probably wouldn’t get cast now in the movie just because there’s a big push to only cast people with the same sexual orientation,” he told Page Six exclusively at the Gotham Awards.

The Aussie actor, 57, admitted he has complicated feelings about it.

“I always think [it] is a little weird because one’s sexual orientation should be private,” he opined. “So I don’t know why that comes into play when it comes to casting.”

“But that said, I understand that, you know, people feel that they need their own kind represented.”
