‘Grow up’: Kevin Spacey slams Guy Pearce over harassment claims

Kevin Spacey has hit back at Oscar nominee Guy Pearce after the Aussie star claimed he was “scared” of him on the set of their film LA Confidential.

Guy Pearce: 'Aggressive' Kevin Spacey 'targeted' me on 'LA Confidential' set when I was 'young and susceptible'

Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has angrily responded to Australian actor Guy Pearce’s claims he targeted him on the set of their 1997 movie, L.A. Confidential.

The actor posted a video alongside the caption “Grow up, Guy Pearce. You are not a victim” on his X account.

“Guy Pearce. I’ve now read the comments that you made about me, and while I would have preferred not to have to play this out in the media, you obviously have your own reasons for wanting to do exactly that,” Spacey said.

“We worked together a long time ago, if you had a problem, you could have reached out to me, we could have had that conversation. My response is grow up.”

Spacey claimed Pearce, who is nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for The Brutalist, met him in Savannah, Georgia, after they filmed LA Confidential.

“Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot L.A. Confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil just to spend time with me?

“I mean, did you tell the press that too, or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?”

He concluded: “You really want to know my response? Grow up. You are not a victim.”

Since 2017, multiple allegations of sexual misconduct have derailed Spacey’s career. The actor has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing and has been acquitted in several legal cases.

His scathing video came after Pearce became emotional as he recalled his experience working with Spacey on the classic 1997 film.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Pearce claimed that Spacey harassed him for months on the set of the thriller.

“I just try to be more honest about it now and call it for what it is,” said Pearce, saying that he “broke down and sobbed” once he came to terms with what had happened.

“Even though I probably was a victim to a degree, I was certainly not a victim by any means to the extent that other people have been to sexual predators,” Pearce told the podcast.

“I was scared of Kevin, he’s quite aggressive, extremely charming (and) holds a room remarkably. I was young and susceptible,” Pearce said.

Pearce added hat he felt more comfortable around Spacey when his co-star and fellow Aussie Simon Baker (formerly Denny) was on set.

“He (Spacey) would focus on Denny because he’s much better looking than me,” Pearce said.

Pearce said he “brushed it off” until reading about the accusations made by the actor Anthony Rapp, who alleged that Spacey made sexual advances at a party in New York in 1986 when he was 14, while both were relatively unknown Broadway actors.

A jury later found that Spacey did not sexually abuse Rapp.

“I think it really sort of dawned on me the impact that had occurred and how I sort of brushed it off and how I had sort of either shelved it or blocked it out, or whatever,” Pearce said. “That was a really incredible wake-up call.”
