Clearest sign yet Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are no longer friends
Speculation has been rampant for months the A-list besties are no longer on speaking terms, and now a mega snub has proved the clearest sign yet.
Blake Lively turned 38 this week, but it was a celebration that flew widely under the radar thanks to Taylor Swift’s earth-shattering engagement announcement.
While Lively was re-sharing dozens of birthday tributes from friends on her Instagram account, Swift went live with a series of photos revealing she was engaged to NFL champion Travis Kelce.
It may seem innocuous to some, but the former best friends have long shared tributes to one another on social media for various milestones, from career announcements to birthdays, with Lively in particular often shouting out the US megastar – who is the godmother to her children with Ryan Reynolds.
Cut to Tuesday, when the US actress made no mention of Swift’s mega news, signalling the clearest sign yet of the rumoured breakdown of their decade-long friendship.

It’s a significant juxtaposition to relations last year, with Lively and Swift practically inseparable, regularly seen stepping out together in New York.
Lively also frequently joined Swift at Kansas City Chiefs games and, most notably, at the headline-making 2024 Super Bowl.
We also got a rare post from Swift in July, when the singer shared a personal note honouring Reynolds amid the release of his blockbuster Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine, describing him as “one of my best friends on the planet”, and “my god kids’ sperm donor”.
It’s fair to say many fans have clocked the silent snub from both Lively and Reynolds for Swift’s biggest reveal to date.

A source spoke to Daily Mail in light of the news, claiming “Blake didn’t reach out [following the engagement announcement] and isn’t going to.”
The source continued, “This is something that we would’ve talked about in the past, like what was going to happen, if she was going to be in the wedding, what that would look like. All of that. But now, it’s just silence.
“There’s no ‘will she or won’t she’ about Blake being in the wedding, because she just won’t. She knows that, and I don’t think she particularly wants to talk about that.”
Cracks first emerged in their seemingly unbreakable friendship earlier this year when the singer was dragged into Lively’s legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
Baldoni filed a $US400 million lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds in January (which was later dismissed in June).
In court documents as part of the filing, Baldoni shared texts between he and Lively, showing a discussion the pair had about Swift in which Lively seemingly referred to the superstar as her “dragon”.
“I happen to have a few dragons. For better or worse, but usually for better,” the actress’s alleged text read.
“Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. [Smiley-face emoji] you will too, I can promise you.”
As a result of the texts, Swift was issued a subpoena in May to appear in court as a witness in the actors’ ongoing legal feud.
Swift’s legal team ultimately managed to get the subpoena tossed, with her representatives publicly distancing the pop star from the ordeal.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was travelling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” a Swift spokesperson said at the time.
Multiple sources claimed Swift felt “betrayed” and “exploited” by Lively, and their union had suffered as a result.
Earlier this month, People made the bold claim the longtime friends officially “aren’t speaking” – though with no public commentary from Lively, Reynolds or Swift, it’s all been merely speculation.
But with the stone cold silence on such a happy week, it appears they really may have bad blood after all.
Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting the October release of Swift’s twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which features an apparent diss track called Ruin the Friendship, with many speculating it could be about Lively.
