‘I don’t hate kids’: Chelsea Handler is still being asked about being child-free

Actress and comedian Chelsea Handler wants to clear up a misconception about her decision not to have kids.

In her Netflix comedy special Chelsea Handler: The Feeling, Chelsea Handler says she has a friend who warns her, “Chelsea, you’re not going to have a baby? You’re going to die alone.”

To which she gladly replies, “I hope so! What, do you think I want to drag a bunch of innocent children down with me?”

At 50-years-old and having widely publicised the fact that she is happily child-free, Handler is still being asked about her decision not to start a family of her own.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week she was asked, “Are friends really telling you - I mean, at this point in your life, are they still telling you, you should have kids?”

“Well, I mean, I’m 50 now, so obviously, that ship has sailed,” she replied dryly. “And if you don’t get that, then you’ve got bigger problems.”

Kimmel continued to prod, suggesting she could adopt, but Handler shut him down.

“I have plenty of children in my life,” she said.

“Another misconception about not having your own children is that people think I hate kids,” she went on. “I don’t hate kids, I just don’t want one.

“It’s just like, I don’t want spaghetti Bolognese - I’m not interested, you know?”

Handler’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live comes after rumours started swirling of a potential romance with Ralph Fiennes, 62, after the pair were seen looking cosy at this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar after-party.

The comedian was quick to set the record straight however saying, “I saw about 30,000 articles come through. When your publicist sends you an update of the press that you’ve been in daily and I was like, ‘How long is this email?’”

“Ralph Fiennes and I went from one party to another party with a group of people, and that is what happened,” she added. “I don’t think Ralph Fiennes is marriage material, and I don’t think I’m marriage material.”
