Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal have reunited in the famed Katz’s deli to recreate the famous “fake orgasm” scene from their beloved movie When Harry Met Sally.
The much-loved pair celebrated the 35th anniversary of the classic rom-com for an ad that will air during next month’s Super Bowl.
Seated together at the exact same table where they originally filmed the famous “I’ll have what she’s having” scene, Ryan and Crystal filmed a new version for a Hellmann’s mayonnaise ad.
The reunion will no doubt thrill fans of the 1989 movie, who have for years been calling for a sequel to the Rob Reiner-directed film.
In the new ad, Ryan and Crystal return in character to the bustling New York City deli, with Crystal telling Ryan, “I can’t believe they let us back in this place.”
“Why?” Ryan as Sally asks, to which he responds, “Hello …”
“Nobody remembers that,” Ryan insists.
The pair are referring to the classic movie moment where Crystal, as Harry, said he didn’t believe any of the women he’s slept with have ever faked an orgasm.
In a moment that went down in history, Ryan’s character then proceeded to offer a convincing demonstration at the table in front of shocked onlookers.
“I’ll have what she’s having,” quipped a fellow diner, who was played by director Reiner’s mother, Estelle.
In the new Hellman’s ad, the pair bite into their respective sandwiches, but Ryan tells Crystal that her sandwich “isn’t doing it.”
She then squeezes a blob of Hellmann’s mayonnaise onto her rye bread and shows her approval by recreating her famous orgasmic performance.
“This one’s real,” Crystal remarks as actress Sydney Sweeney makes a cameo to deliver the “I’ll have what she’s having” catchphrase.
Ryan and Crystal, who recently lost his cherished family home in the LA wildfires, told CNN they thought they would never have a reunion and that it felt like no time had passed at all.
“I don’t know that they intended it, but what we like about it is that you’re inside a little bit of their happily ever after,” Ryan told CNN.
“Thirty-five years later, you get the idea that they’re still going here, they’re together, they’re still talking the way they talk to each other. It’s like a little wink at the movie.”
Ryan fondly remembered working with Crystal and castmates Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby, as well as director Reiner, writer Nora Ephron and cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld.
“Talking about it today, I’m so grateful that I was around all of these really kind and very high-level comedic minds,” she said.
Crystal told CNN: “Understanding men and women, the basic principle was, ‘Can they be friends?’ You know, that’s delicate stuff – this was in the late ’80s. It was really high wire. “You have no idea what’s going to happen with any project. We left with a great experience. We still have that in our hearts, and we’ll always have that.
“And the fact that this movie has endured and is so respected and revered and studied, that is incredibly moving and satisfying.”
