Michael Mosley’s wife has remembered the beloved TV doctor as an “amazing man” and revealed her plans to continue his work in a tribute on social media, weeks after he was found dead on a Greek island.

Dr Mosley went missing while holidaying with his wife, Dr Clare Bailey, on the island of Symi on June 4. The 67 year old had left St Nikolas beach solo and without his phone, traversing a rocky path in 40C temperatures and making it to nearby Symi Town.

His body was found five days later behind a fence next to a beach bar at the Agia Marina.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Dr Bailey thanked the public for the “wonderfully supportive messages” and revealed that her family misses the father of four “so much.”

“The outpouring of love from so many people has meant a huge amount to me and my family,” she wrote alongside a photo of her late husband.

“I’m going to be quiet for a while. I’m sure you will understand. But I will be back here soon.

Sharing her plans for the future, the GP and health writer added: “I very much want to continue with the work that gave Michael and myself so much joy and such a sense of purpose.”

“Once more thank you so much for respecting my family’s privacy so kindly. Michael was an amazing man. Thank you for seeing that too. We miss him so much.”

Dr Mosley was a popular TV talking head in the UK and in Australia, who regularly appeared on chat shows and presented documentaries about diet and exercise.

In recent years, he presented the series Australia’s Health Revolution and Australia’s Sleep Revolution for SBS.

Dr Bailey earlier shared a statement confirming Dr Mosley’s death, sharing she was devastated to lose her “wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband”.

“We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it,” she said.

“He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.

“Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special.

“We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him.”

The pair, who married in 1987, share four adult children – sons, Dan, Alex and Jack, and daughter, Kate.

Five day search ends in discovery of body

Dr Mosley’s body was discovered by Agia Marina’s bar manager after the mayor of Symi reportedly “saw something” from his viewpoint from a boat and notified staff.

“They called me, they said ‘You know what we saw something from far away, can you go and check’ so I went there,” manager Ilias Tsavaris told The Mirror.

In a piece for The Sun, reporter Ed Southgate said he was at the beach bar with photographer Simon Jones, filming a piece about Mosley’s disappearance, when they were interrupted by the bar’s manager “who was indicating he had seen something on the other side of the barbed wire fence.”

They raced over to look for themselves, and saw the body.

Southgate wrote that he “froze … It was horrifying and incredibly overwhelming. I was hit by an intense shock and sadness. I felt sick and at several points I was on the verge of tears.”

He said he immediately rushed back to the restaurant to raise the alarm, and the scene then became “chaotic” as staff contacted police, and tried to keep tourists away from their grim discovery.

“The tragedy of this is that he was just yards from the beach resort where he could have sat and had water,” Southgate noted.

An initial post-mortem examination found Dr Mosley died of ‘natural causes’ about two and a half hours after setting off for the walk.

The post-mortem found no injuries on his body that could have caused his death.
