Move over Keanu Reeves, Adam Sandler may be coming for the title of Hollywood’s most humble celebrity.
The veteran US actor, 57, has long been renowned for coming across as “normal” despite his enduring fame, largely, thanks to his ‘daggy dad’ attire.
Now, the Uncut Gems star has popped up in a viral TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 10 million times on one X account as of Tuesday, prompting fans to dub him “the most down to earth celebrity ever.”
In the video, the TikToker, who uses the handle @MysteryFashionist, managed to land an interview with the Hollywood heavyweight on the street in New York this week to talk about his signature style.
Sandler, who currently has three big-budget productions in the works, happily stopped to chat with the man, completely unfazed by the random request.
In fact, the Grown Ups actor actually appeared to be enjoying himself throughout the informal interview, introducing himself simply as ‘Adam’, before telling the host all about his key fashion must-haves, from “shoes that fit”, to high socks with his daughters’ faces printed on them.
Thousands of users took to the comment section of the video praising Sandler for his humility.
“Adam Sandler has always been himself,” one user wrote.
“Most humble actor,” another said.
“He is so genuine, I love him,” a third wrote.
“I saw him at Nobu Malibu dressed exactly like this,” another claimed.
“Bro is richer than we all together,” a fifth joked.
“A person where money hasn’t changed him. The best,” another wrote.
Others chimed in with their own low-key Sandler sightings, with one claiming they saw him on the subway, while another said they regularly spot him playing basketball at a local gym.
It comes after Sandler, who made his film debut in 1989’s Going Overboard, was named Forbes’ highest-paid actor in 2023, banking $US73 million ($AU107 million) thanks to his Netflix deal.
Sandler has been married to wife, fellow actor Jackie Sandler, since 2003.
The couple share daughters Sadie, 18, and Sunny, 15.
In certain corners of the internet, there are countless, albeit unverified, stories speaking to Sandler’s quiet acts of kindness with fans.
A Reddit thread which kicked off in 2020, titled ‘Good guy Adam’, has attracted hundreds of comments over the years.
One person told how their friend was a child actor who played the small role of ‘Scotty’ in the 1995 film Billy Madison, which Sandler’s character described as having a “stupid haircut.”
“Flash forward 20+ years and my friends sister is in LA and sees Adam Sandler at a restaurant. She walked up to him and said ‘my brother was in Billy Madison. blah blah’ and without hesitation he told her to call him. When my friend picked up the call from his sister it was Sandler and all he said was ‘Hey, you still have that stupid haircut?’.”
Another shared how their young cousin gave Sandler his T-shirt in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, with Sandler photographed by paparazzi wearing the exact shirt weeks later.
A third detailed how her fiance’s uncle’s home was used to film the 2020 Netflix film Hubie Halloween, starring Sandler.
“He [Sandler] was incredibly cool and kind. Unfortunately a couple months after shooting my fiancé’s uncle passed away,” they wrote.
“Adam Sandler sent a huge bouquet of flowers to his funeral. I can attest to him being a cool dude.”
