It started as a dream and, over three years, Doug Tapfield’s Dougstock has grown into one of the SA’s most diverse and interesting music festivals.

When Doug Tapfield was young he jokingly referred to part of the family’s Willunga farm as Woodstock.
A fan of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and all things 60s, young Doug would gaze out over the gently sloping paddocks with views down to the sea and dream of one day hosting a music festival there.
Two years ago, when he was considering whether he should have a 40th birthday party, he thought it might finally be time to make that dream a reality. Dougstock was born.
From humble beginnings the grassroots festival has grown each year to what it is now – a ticketed, bona fide mini festival with some of SA’s most talented musos playing across two days.
Mr Tapfield said despite Dougstock’s growth he was determined to keep it a grassroots festival where everyone felt welcome.
“We’re expecting about seven or eight hundred people this year,” he said.
“If we do everything right I could see it reaching maybe two or three thousand people down the track, but we certainly aren’t looking at becoming the next Harvest Rock.”
Dougstock 3, to be held this Friday and Saturday, will host the likes of local legend Adam Page, New York Blues Hall of Fame member Chris Finnen, Adelaide rockers Wanderers, 10-piece soul band Soul-Centric and gypsy outfit Golonka.
“We really proud of this year’s line-up,” Mr Tapfield said.
“There’s something like 12 bands covering ten different genres. And on top of that we’ll have food vans, a bar, a chill out tent – there’s something for everyone.”
Dougstock 3 will take place from December 2-3. Check out dougstock.com.au for details.
