Britney Spears has become known for stripping off on her Instagram page and her nudity has often left some fans a little confused.

Spears, 41, has spoken in the past about being pressured into stripping off for her career, and has publicly shared that there were many times she wishes she hadn’t.

The two conflicting narratives have often confused fans, but now Spears has finally explained just what drives her desire to take off her clothes on social media, and there’s one big reason; this time, it’s her in control of her body.

Spears regularly takes to Instagram with naked photos.

The pop star’s explanation comes as excerpts of her new memoir, The Woman in Me, have been making headlines around the world.

In an excerpt from her book, Spears acknowledged that while many of her followers might find her skin-baring posts unconventional, she said she gets “joy” from posing nude.

“I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses,” she wrote.

“But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posting the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture.”

The star said it was empowering to take ownership of her own image.

It’s not the first time Spears has addressed her nudity.

Back in 2021, the legendary star shared a topless snap and shared her reasoning for posting within the caption.

“Before I show you more pics of my body … I want you to understand my thoughts on exposing my skin!!!!” she wrote.

“In my opinion, it’s quite twisted the immediate response of when any woman is hot and they want to shed a layer … no … I’m not talking in a strip club or a performance … just on a practical scale of being in your car and realising you’re wearing a stupid long sleeve shirt in the summer!!!!

“The immediate reaction to any woman who does this after shedding a layer is DAMN I FEEL BETTER … therefore you think you look better!!!”
