BINGE
MR BIGSTUFF
AUGUST 1
English actor Ryan Sampson (Brassic, Plebs) created and wrote this six-part British comedy and also stars as Glen, a timid and nervy carpet salesman. He’s living a quiet, unremarkable and happy enough suburban life with his wife to be Kirsty (nevermind the fact that he can’t get it up and she has a secret shoplifting problem) that is up-ended when his estranged brother – and polar opposite – Lee (Danny Dyer from Eastenders) turns up out of the blue. Not only does he bring a tin containing their dad’s ashes – he also has a prescription drug addiction and a shady past that might be about to catch up with him.
MR THROWBACK
AUGUST 8
Four-time NBA champion Steph Curry pivots to the acting game (and executive produces) by playing a version of himself in a mockumentary comedy from the creator and writer of sit-com Happy Endings. Comedian Adam Pally (The Mindy Project, Happy Endings) plays a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer who is seeking redemption by reconnecting with his basketball teammate from primary school, who has gone on to become of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

CRITICAL INCIDENT
AUGUST 12
Creator Sarah Bassiuoni was inspired to create this psychological crime thriller by her own experiences working as a lawyer in Western Sydney’s juvenile justice system. Filmed in Blacktown, Granville, Parramatta and Greenacre, it stars Akshay Khanna as Senior Constable Zil Ahmed, whose pursuit of a teenage suspect Dalia causes a bystander to be critically injured. Compounding matters and is the fact that Dalia is innocent, but as the ensuing investigation digs deeper, the guilt-stricken and unravelling Zil becomes fixated on pinning something on her anyway.
BOARDERS
AUGUST 23
After a fancy British private school gets into hot water for some (all too familiar) appalling behaviour by its entitled students, it tries to repair its reputation by offering scholarships to some disadvantaged but street-smart inner city kids. While the school professes to embrace its new-found diversity and inclusivity, the black “charity case” kids are expected to fit in with its old-fashioned ways, leading to much comedic conflict as they come face-to-face with wealth and privilege. As one observes, “you have not lived the full private school experience if you don’t come home with an STI and a coke habit”.

TALES OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
AUGUST 10
The heroes in a half-shell are back for more pizza-munching, high-kicking action in this animated series from the same team behind last year’s better-than-it-had-any-right-to-be movie Mutant Mayhem. The NYC sewer-dwelling reptiles and their ace reporter buddy April O’Neil (voiced by The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri) are joined by some top-notch voice talent including Pete Davidson as a lazy rich kid who wants to be a turtle, Rose Byrne and Post Malone as Mutanimal allies and Timothy Olyphant as Goldfin, the leader of the villainous East River Three.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER
AUGUST 29
The first season of this hugely-anticipated and wildly expensive fantasy epic inspired by J. R. R Tolkien’s writing was a bit hit and miss – and took a while to find its footing. But with the big reveal at the end that Aussie actor Charlie Vickers’ roguish human Halbrand was in fact the supremely evil Dark Lord Sauron, hopefully this season can really hit the ground running. Discovered and cast out by Galadriel (an outstanding Morfydd Clark) and seemingly on his own, the wily Sauron can now delve into the promise made by the title by forging the rings that will help him dominate Middle-earth. Expect some more grand-scale storytelling and epic battle scenes as the worlds of elves, orcs, dwarfs and men collide in a clash of good and evil.

ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING
AUGUST 27
Ahead of a swag of Emmy nominations for Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, podcasting sleuths Charles, Oliver and Mabel are back to deal with the shocking events of last season’s finale surrounding Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), who took a bullet clearly meant for Charles. The investigation will lead them to Los Angeles, where a studio is making a movie about the podcast, and then back to the murder-prone west tower of the Arconia apartments. Once again, there’s a shining array of guest stars, including Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy and Kumail Nanjiani.

BAD MONKEY
AUGUST 14
Vince Vaughn is back to his snarky, fast-talking best in this crime-thriller based on the bestseller of the same name by Carl Hiaasen and from some of the team behind Ted Lasso and Shrinking. The Wedding Crashers star plays Andrew Yancy, a loose cannon cop who has been kicked out of the Miami Police Department. But when he stumbles across a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he sees a way back to his old job – assuming he can prove it’s a murder and can survive the host of Florida oddballs he meets along the way.

EMILY IN PARIS
AUGUST 15
Even the most ardent of Emily in Paris fans will admit that it’s kind of bad – in the same way that eating an entire family block of Cadbury’s Milk Chocolate in your PJs on the couch is kind of bad. But the first part of season four (the second half arrives September 12), picks up right where the last season left off, with Emily still weighing up her strong feelings for Gabriel (after that disastrous wedding that never was) and her now-ex Alfie, who doesn’t want to play second fiddle. Veteran British actor Rupert Everett also joins the cast as Giorgio Barbieri, a well-connected friend of Sylvie who owns a global interior design firm based in Rome and is the life of any party.
TERMINATOR ZERO
AUGUST 29
Just like the man-machine of the title, The Terminator is the franchise that refuses to die. After the last few big-screen misfires though, this new anime series wisely shifts away from the done-to-death Sarah and John Connor saga to a whole new setting in Japan. The premise is similar though, with another soldier – this time a woman, voiced by House of the Dragon’s Sonoya Mizuno – sent back to the past to protect a scientist who is working on a new AI system that could prevent the impending Skynet attack on humanity. And of course there’s an evil robot assassin – voiced by the always reliable Timothy Olyphant – hot on their heels.
