Bachelorette Australia: Brooke Blurton wants to ‘find love’

Brooke Blurton will this week make history as the first bisexual star with both men and women vying for her affections. Here we feature every contestant on this year’s show.

The significance of what Brooke Blurton is about to undertake isn’t lost on the reality star.

The 26-year-old will this week make history as the first bisexual star with both men and women vying for her affections.

“It has got so much depth to it, which I think I am still processing, the gravity it holds,” Blurton told the Daily Telegraph.

“I get a little overwhelmed with it all in a good way in terms of how much this means and how progressive this is.

“This season is going to be one to remember but I think it is also going to really challenge preconceived ideas of what sexuality looks like and of what Aboriginal culture looks like.”

Proud indigenous Australian Blurton is not new to the Bachelor franchise.

She appeared as a contestant looking for love on the Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins season of The Bachelor in 2018.

She has appeared on the spin-off reality series, Bachelor In Paradise, and has been previously romantically linked to singer G-Flip and AFL player Jed Bews.

On Wednesday’s premiere episode, eight women and eight men will meet her for the first time.

“At the end of the day it is my journey and I am just Brooke,” she said.

“If you remove those labels, I am just a girl trying to find love but I do represent so much and I am incredibly proud of that.”

The youth worker and mental health advocate said she was a very different woman today than the young person that walked on set of The Bachelor at the age of 23.

“I was such a baby,” explained Blurton who used the reality TV platform to highlight various issues in the mental health space.

“I am the same person, I just look at the 23-year-old that was on that red carpet and look at me now and I have grown so incredibly much in the last three years.

“Obviously that is because of being exposed to more of a public profile but within myself I have grown into the skin that I have.”

She continued: “I have always had thick skin and I have never worried about what people think because I am so content and grounded in my identity and my sexuality but I think the person I was back then to now is a stronger more determined, I would say I am a much more fierce version of myself. I think I am a bit more feisty.”

The season recently wrapped production with Blurton careful not to give too much away ahead of the season launch.

“I am extremely happy with the outcome and I am happy with everything that has happened on the show for sure,” she said. “I am happy to say I am done with the search and have found what I have been looking for.”

Here, Confidential takes a look at the contestants in the running on this season of The Bachelorette:

Beau Tauwhara, 34, photographer, NSW

“My last relationship was five years ago. It ended because she had an opportunity to live overseas, so we called it off. We were together for five years.”

Bec Pressing, 30, charity officer, VIC

“I would rather be single than with someone who’s not right for me. I fully embrace every day and want to live life as happily and lovingly as possible.”

Carrisa Croft, 30, psychologist, QLD

“I can be very awkward when I like someone and ramble and or tell stories about nothing that go in circles. I hope the right person adores my awkwardness, rather than runs away from it.”

Darvid Garayeli, 27, landscaper, QLD

“I think I have pretty high standards at this point, and I won’t settle down until I have found the right person. I’m pretty simple. My dream date would be a nice bottle of wine accompanied by Italian food, somewhere warm, with a whole lot of laughs.”

Emily Bebbington, 25, vet receptionist, NSW

“I’ve got so much love and energy for the right person. I’ve created a life that I love: I’m surrounded by the most amazing friends, I’m around animals every day and I make time for a boogie no matter what.”

Holly Langford, 27, marketing administrator, NSW

“I am bright, fun and bring so much love and energy to everything I do. I am genuinely looking for love and think Brooke, and my goals and outlook on life, align.”

Jamie-Lee Dayz, 30, psychology student, NSW

“I applied when I saw Brooke was The Bachelorette. I believe we had a connection when we were in the house together on The Bachelor Australia. I recognise that in a relationship, there are days and weeks where things get mundane, and life gets in the way. In those times, I am resilient and supportive and won’t give up when things get tough. I am open-minded and always willing to learn and better myself.”

Jessica Franklin, software sales executive, SA

“I am protective of my energy. I know my worth, who I am as a person and what I have to offer. Choosing a partner, your forever person, should not be something that is rushed or taken lightly.”

Johann Alessandrini, 27, carpenter, NSW

“I am active, spontaneous, honest, silly and impetuous. A deal breaker for me is someone that lacks the ability to have a deep conversation, is close minded and not open to new experiences.”

Kurt Herzog, 29, sports mentor, NSW

“I’ve never really had a long-term partner. Brooke may see that as a red flag. I like my individual space and time. When I was training as a swimmer, I was selfish of my time, and it has taken me a lot to change that.”

Konrad Bien Stephen, 31, carpenter, VIC

“I’m loyal, I’m honest and I will go to the ends of the earth for those I love. I haven’t met the one yet. I’m being careful not to ignore the early signs, and any red flags. Just because I get along with someone, doesn’t mean I should be in a relationship with them. I am taking my time.”

Matthew Pottier, 31, metal fabricator, QLD

“I am an open book and always bettering myself. My dream date is a picnic with a cheese platter, wine, music, and a sunset.”

Ritu Chhina, 25, filmmaker, VIC

“I think Brooke and I are very similar. Not only are we both POC queer women, we are both based in Melbourne and passionate about mental health and trauma recovery. I studied law so that I can support women who have experienced any kind of abuse.”

Ryan Carmichael, 29, plumber, NSW

“I am family‐oriented, supportive, and protective of the ones I love. I like to keep fit and healthy. I am very accepting and understanding.”

Steve Pliatsikas, 29, podiatrist, NSW

“My dream date would be any activity (rock climbing, motorbike ride, hike, arcade, go karting or mini golf) followed by a picnic at a beach.”

Taje Fowler, 23, youth worker, NSW

“I only date people that I have a genuine connection with. I prefer to stay single, than date someone for the sake of it. I know who I am and what I stand for, which is why I believe I would make a great partner for Brooke.”
