‘You’re so awesome’: Emma Watson’s fangirl note to Steve Carell after he supported equal rights at Oscars

WHEN Emma Watson saw what Steve Carell wore to the Oscars, she felt compelled to write him a note saying she ‘wanted to marry him or have him adopt me’.

EMMA Watson has written a note to Steve Carell thanking him for supporting equal rights at the Oscars and calling him “awesome”.

The 24-year-old Harry Potter star told Carell he was “pure genius” in Little Miss Sunshine, one of her all-time favourite movies, and that she “wanted to marry you or have you adopt me” after his performance in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

The actress posted a photo of her handwritten letter on Twitter after Carell wore cufflinks mentioning gender equality campaign HeForShe to yesterday’s ceremony.

“Couldn’t be more proud,” gushed Watson, who is an ambassador for the UN, which is running the campaign.

She told Carell he was “mind-blowing” in Foxcatcher, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, although he lost out to Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything.

She added that she “hated that guy you played in The Way, Way Back”.

Watson followed it up by posting another handwritten note on Twitter thanking American Sniper star Jake McDorman for wearing similar cufflinks.

Carell responded to Watson’s message by tweeting that it was “an honour” to support the gender equality campaign by wearing the cufflinks designed by Monique Pean.

Watson gained worldwide praise for a stirring speech promoting gender equality at the launch of the HeForShe campaign in September.

The UN Women Goodwill Ambassador spoke of her confusion at being labelled “bossy” as a child and sexualised by the media in her teens, adding: “Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.”

The campaign aims to get 100,000 men and boys involved in the fight to achieve gender equality.

Watson also expressed support for Patricia Arquette’s controversial speech on equal pay for both genders, and confirmed that despite her hero-worship of Best Actor nominee Carell, she was, “So thrilled for Eddie!!!!!!”

Another of Watson’s tweets was made headlines this week when she appeared to deny rumours reported by Woman’s Day that she was dating Prince Harry, tweeting: “WORLD. Remember that talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!”
