1/23Before Cate Blanchett became the style icon she is today, let us not forget her humble beginnings. Back in 2000 Blanchett wore a bum-skimming overembellished Jean Paul Gaultier number featuring hip-level open panels proving she could only improve on her fashion-game ... and boy has she! Sack the stylist: The worst of Oscars’ fashion
IT’S Oscars time again but before you take in the red carpet fashions don’t forget to check out the all time worst looks.
2/23She may be genetically blessed, a talented actress, married to a super-hunk and have a sexy Spanish accent but unfortunately Elsa Pataky’s ill-fitting and shapeless frock in 2014 left her at the top of many a worst-dressed list. Looking more like a bedazzled truckers’ singlet than high fashion the teal frock by Elie Saab had tongues wagging for the wrong reasons with the late Joan Rivers copping flack for calling her “huge”. 3/23Aside from Anne Hathaway’s chic tuxedo and heels ensemble everything about this picture is wrong. Along with co-host James Franco the duo proved that perfect looks don’t buy perfect onstage chemistry, the pair famously bombed their 2011 hosting gig with Franco spending more time on Twitter than actually hosting the live event, leaving Hathaway to pick up the pieces. 5/23Is that Kate Hudson or our elderly aunt on her way back from linedancing class. The Hollywood golden girl gave the naysayers something to squark about in her 2001 Stella McCartney disaster. Picture: Steve Granitz Archive 1/WireImage
6/23Nominated for her role in classic filck ‘Thelma And Louise’ Geena Davis is better-remembered for the shocking ‘mullet-shaped’ frock created by costume designers Ruth Meyers and Bill Hargate. Picture: Ron Galella/WireImage
7/23Before Angelina Jolie was mother to an ever-growing brood of kids she was into some much darker stuff. As illustrated by the decidedly witchy black ensemble she wore to the 2000 Oscars. Picture: Ke.Mazur/WireImage

12/23Looking like she stepped right off the set of Dynasty, Charlize Theron was nominated for an Oscar for best actress in a leading role for her work in ‘North Country’, but won the award for most over-the-top gown at the 2005 Oscars. Picture: Getty

14/23Let’s get straight to the point! Anne Hathaway’s blushing-pink gown gained attention from critics for the wrong reasons in 2013. Funnily enough the actress actually issued a formal apology for the Prada creation, but not for the distractingly-perky nipple area ... rather for changing her mind at the last minute when she discovered someone else was wearing a similar gown to her original Valentino number. 15/23... And on the other side of perky ... Gwyneth Paltrow said of her 2002 Alexander McQueen goth number “There were a few issues; I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra ...” Fashion critics called the dress everything from “unflattering, figure-flattening goth getup” to a “fashion disaster” to “the worst dress ever.” Ouch! 16/23There’s a fine line between incredible and terrible ... and singer-turned-actress Cher proves she’s incredible every time. Here she is pictured at the 1986 Oscars. Picture: Supplied / File
