Fashion Police co-host Melissa Rivers criticises #askhermore campaign for red carpet celebs

MELISSA Rivers has carried on her mother Joan’s legacy of poking fun at celebrities and says the red carpet is not for asking about world hunger.

Melissa Rivers thinks you need to lighten up.

While earnest types not interested in fashion have pushed the #AskHerMore agenda on social media, the Fashion Police executive producer and co-host — who admits she “lives in the shallow end of the pool” — has pushed back at those trying to get serious with celebrities at awards events.

As the Academy Awards looms (12.30pm, Monday on Channel Nine), Rivers argues the glittering gala is “not the appropriate place” to play politics.

And the fans nor the celebrities have time for such in-depth discussion.

“I know there’s this whole movement, like ‘ask her something serious’ but it’s not the appropriate place for it. I’m not going to ask you about your feelings on world hunger when in the 30 seconds I have with you on the red carpet, you also have to say who you’re wearing, who is paying you to wear it and get your plug out for your film,” Rivers told News Corp Australia.

“Let’s be honest, the red carpet is not the place for depth. We’re all there honouring each other, so let’s not get crazy.”

Once the pariahs of the Hollywood pack, who felt set upon by the scrutiny of Fashion Police, Rivers has brought the fun back to the show, still mourning the loss of her mother, Joan.

“I think finally everybody has taken a little bit of a deep breath and remembers it’s fun.”
