Tawadros and Grigoryan brothers band together for Barossa, Baroque & Beyond festival
Two pairs of musical siblings will band together to perform at this year’s Barossa, Baroque & Beyond festival.
Cairo-born musician Joseph Tawadros will help form a Band of Brothers at the annual Barossa, Baroque & Beyond “micro-fest” this October long weekend.
Acclaimed oud player Joseph, who moved from Egypt to Australia with his family when he was three, will create a new musical family with his brother James on percussion and another pair of siblings – guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan.
Band of Brothers will perform the Cabaret at Old Red concert on Sunday, October 6, in Old Redemption at Peter Lehmann Wines, Tanunda.
Artistic director Sharon Grigoryan said Joseph and James Tawadros would also perform at A Night of Free Range Music & Food on the Saturday, October 5.
“The Tawadros Brothers are a revelation,” Ms Grigoryan said.
“Very much part of the ‘Beyond’, their Egyptian descent almost solely influences their music that is mainly composed by oud player Joseph.
“Full of fast, furious, and spicy rhythms and harmonies, their duo performance at Maggie Beer’s Farm Eatery on Saturday evening is not to be missed.”
Meanwhile, the Grigoryan Brothers won Best Independent Classical Album for their Bach Concertos, recorded with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, at the AIR Awards on Thursday.
Also new to this year’s BBB line-up are the Adelaide Baroque ensemble and organist Calvin Bowman, who will perform the Sunday afternoon concert at Barossa Regional Gallery, followed by the Barossa French Horn Quintet on the lawns at Peter Lehmann Cellar Door.
