SOMETHING new is brewing for this year’s Feast Festival … a concoction which combines outrageous flavours with a strong aroma of pride.
Female-founded alcohol company Sparkke has not only created a special Pridevember beer to support Feast, but also offered free venue hire at its Whitmore Square hotel-brewery for artists to take part in November’s LGBTIQ+ festival program.
“It’s a fabulous venue – it’s an amazing thing they’re doing,” said drag artist Kristina International.
“I’m looking forward to doing a lot of shows here during the Feast season, having a lot of beer and cocktails.”
Sparkke’s chief brewer Carla Naismith said its Pridevember beer would have hints of lime, pineapple and resinous pine, with Kohatu hops from New Zealand “that truly make this pale ale extra – and damn – proud”.
“I’m really excited to help highlight Pridevember with a great beer in hand,” she said.
Pridevember beer will be sold at Picnic in the Park and available in kegs for other Feast venues, with $1 from every pint donated to the festival, which runs from November 7 to 29.
Sparkke co-founder Kari Allen said that as social activists, the company wanted to support Feast, which had suffered the financial impact of COVID-19 and had to cancel major fundraising events.
“Inclusivity and social equity are at the core of our identity,” Ms Allen said.
“When we discovered what was happening to this bright, exuberant celebration of culture and diversity, we wanted to help.”
