Flavella L’Amour is a real charmer … when it comes to snakes, that is, as well as cabaret audiences.
L’Amour – aka burlesque performer Lorna Beaumont – will share the stage with her two Australian pythons Venus and Golden Rubies as part of her Cabaret Fringe dinner show Serpent Dancer.
After studying dance, Ms Beaumont worked for a time near Pretty Gully rainforest in northern NSW, where the house she stayed at was also occupied by a snake.
“I got used to the snake … and I just really grew to love its energy,” she said.
“The way they move is so incredible.”
When she returned to Adelaide, Ms Beaumont eventually got her own snake and began making appearances as a roving entertainer at parties and events.
Serpent Dancer, which will also feature her classic burlesque routines, belly dancing and the Dance of the Seven Veils, is in the Skyline room at Rydges South Park on June 10.
“At the end, I will definitely stick around so people can come and meet the snakes.”
The Cabaret Fringe is already up and running, with more than 30 shows at various venues until June 13. The official Adelaide Cabaret Festival also runs from June 10 to 25.
