Her Majesty’s Theatre will usher in a new era with guided public tours of the 107-year-old venue’s $66 million redevelopment.
On the Curtain Up tour, patrons will be able to see behind the scenes of the state-of-the-art theatre, including backstage facilities and its famous wall of celebrity signatures, which was painstakingly saved and rebuilt brick by brick.
“We are fortunate to be in a position in SA where we can begin welcoming audiences back into our venues,” said Festival Centre chief executive Douglas Gautier.
“This is our way of finally being able to share the stunning new-look Her Majesty’s Theatre with the wider community.
“The redeveloped theatre is truly a grand sight to behold and really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.”
Work to expand and upgrade Her Majesty’s Theatre started in June 2018 and the refurbished venue was finally unveiled last month.
The previous 970-seat auditorium now seats up to 1467 people over three levels, with the reinstatement of a Grand Circle balcony – which was closed off during the venue’s last major makeover 50 years ago – above the Dress Circle.
Performances at Her Majesty’s will recommence with State Theatre Company’s season of Gaslight from September 4-19, with more shows to be announced soon.

Curtain Up tours start on August 20 and will run every Tuesday at 11am and 2pm. Tickets are $27.50 from BASS.
