More than a thousand extras sought for SA-based Mortal Kombat film
What do you have to do, and who do you have to be, to win an extras role in the biggest movie ever made in South Australia? Details are announced today.
Adelaide Studios at Glenside will throw open its doors on August 17 for the biggest casting call in the state’s history when it starts filling hundreds of roles as extras in the Hollywood action movie Mortal Kombat.
Interest in working as an extra has been at fever pitch since it was announced the movie, a spin-off from the successful video game series, would film at Adelaide Studios from September.
This includes enthusiastic hopefuls writing to the Premier, Steven Marshall, and the Innovation and Skills Minister, David Pisoni, asking for help getting a role as an extra.
Now it’s official.
Angela and Louise Heesom, who have put on extra staff at Heesom Casting to manage the biggest job the agency has had, are asking anyone interested – young or old, fit or not – to turn up between 9am and 2pm, with a pen, to register their details.
“We are looking for hundreds and hundreds of people, well over a thousand,” says Angela Heesom.
“Even if they don’t fit Mortal Kombat for whatever reason we will keep them on our database for next time.”
Not all extras need to be built like superheroes but weights trainer Kwame Duah looks a likely choice for a scene involving high-intensity action, as is glamorous blonde singer Emma Gordan-Smith, who is an experienced extra.
“I’m keen to audition for this, it sounds like a lot of fun,” she said.
