Kimba silo art is a vision of beauty in the Eyre
SOUTH Australia’s latest piece of giant art — painted on the side of six grain silos in Kimba — is finally complete.
SOUTH Australia’s latest piece of giant art — painted on the side of six grain silos in Kimba — is finally complete.
The official opening ceremony is at 5.30pm on Friday.
Artist Cam Scale spent weeks creating the 30m-high artwork — first with broad outlines, then intricate detail and deep colours that change in the light.
Kimba Community Development Group chair Heather Baldock said the artwork has gripped the imagination of local adults and children.
“The work he has done in the last week is incredible. The detail on the little girl’s face has really brought her to life on a very large canvas,” she said.
A similar giant silo artwork was completed in Coonalpyn, 163km southeast of Adelaide, by artist Guido van Helten in March.
“I’m a positive person, but the impact of this has gone further than we could’ve ever hoped for,” said Coonalpyn District Council chief executive Vincent Cammell said.
“It’s really changed the fabric of the town and brought them together in a way I don’t think has happened in a long time.”
