Things are getting back in the swing at Her Majesty’s Theatre, with SA jazz luminaries joining forces for one of a new series of concerts.
A Night of Jazz with Lyndon Gray and Friends, on November 25, will round off the Music @ The Maj program which starts in October.
Vocalist Jo Lawry, who recently returned from New York, and Cuban-Australian trumpeter Lazaro Numa are among the performers who will join Gray on stage.
“We have such a wealth of talent in Adelaide, so it’s really great to have an opportunity to focus back on that,” said Lawry, who has worked with stars including Sting, Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel.
“Her Majesty’s looks amazing – it’s spectacular, it’s so beautiful. It’s a wonderful combination of that grand, traditional theatre feeling but it’s also incredibly modern in all the best ways.”
The concert series will open with cabaret singer Libby O’Donovan and country music icon Beccy Cole in The Cowgirl & The Showgirl Ride Again on October 9-10.
That will be followed on October 23 by The Backstage Sessions Live, with more than 20 musicians including Cal Williams Jr, Django Rowe, Mike Bevan and The Yearlings, presented by the Adelaide Guitar Festival.
Classical program Legato, on November 4, will bring together pianist Konstantin Shamray, guitar and cello duo Slava and Sharon Grigoryan, and the Australian String Quartet.
Seating for all shows will be in a checkerboard format, to maintain social distancing.
