Angelique Kidjo to perform Talking Heads at Womadelaide

WORLD music superstar Angelique Kidjo will perform Talking Heads’ classic 1980 album Remain In Light as part of next year’s Womadelaide.

WORLD music superstar Angelique Kidjo will perform Talking Heads’ classic 1980 album Remain In Light as part of next year’s Womadelaide festival.

The Beninese singer and three-time Grammy winner, has been receiving rave reviews for her reimagining of the new wave masterpiece, which helped bring African-influenced sounds to a western audience.

One of the most influential women in Africa, whose music blends elements of R&B, funk and jazz, European and Latin American, Kidjo last performed at Botanic Park as one of the opening night acts for the 2016 Womadelaide accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

News of her return is part of the first announcement of artists for the Womadelaide 2019 line-up with more artists revealed tomorrow on advertiser.com.au.

“Offering the first taste of the program awaiting our audiences for next March is always a thrill,” Womadelaide director Ian Scobie said.

“With the combination of the fearless work of artists like Angelique Kidjo, Womadelaide 2019 is certain to be a unique and memorable sonic journey around the world.”
