It will be like opening a present when the full Adelaide Symphony Orchestra performs for the first time since March at its Classics Unwrapped concert in the Barossa on Saturday, August 29.

“I’m so looking forward to performing in Tanunda for a live audience after so many months away from the concert stage,” said flute player Lisa Gill.

“The program includes music by some of my favourite composers – Mozart, Brahms and Mendelssohn – and I can’t wait to relive the joy of performing Beethoven’s Egmont Overture.”

Piccolo player Julia Grenfell has also missed performing in an orchestra for the past five months, the longest break since she was in primary school.

“I am most looking forward to the Mendelssohn Allegro Vivace,” she said. “If you had to sum up the spirit of that piece, it would be joyous and optimistic.”

The musicians will be joined by soprano Desiree Frahn, who will perform Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate.

“It is a joyful celebration of light coming after the dark and finding peace after the storm,” Ms Frahn said.

“I think that is such an important and beautiful sentiment to send ringing out in these times.”
