ARTS South Australia has increased its COVID-19 grants package by $1 million to help meet high demand from the state’s cultural sector.

It takes the total Quick Response Grants amount to $2.5 million, after the initial release of $1.5 million on March 25.

Premier and arts minister Steven Marshall said venue closures, travel restrictions and social distancing had an immediate impact on the way artists and organisations make and present their work.

“We moved quickly to create a new suite of grants and support payments to organisations, with the aim of maintaining stability in the sector and allowing artists to continue with their practice within the current circumstances,” Mr Marshall said.

“It is fantastic to see so many artists and organisations reaching out to support social distancing efforts and the broader wellbeing of our communities by making their work available online.”

Two new types of funding were introduced last month: Quick Response Grants of up to $10,000 for independent artists and Collaboration Grants worth up to $100,000 for partnerships between major organisations and the small-to-medium sector.
