ARIA Awards 2022: Stars hit the red carpet for music awards night
Australian music’s biggest event was back with a bang last night after several years of pandemic-induced virtual ceremonies. See the best red carpet looks and all the glitz and glamour.

ARIAs, it certainly has been a while.
After a couple of years of virtual broadcasts, the Aussie music industry’s biggest night of the year has returned in fine form.
The 36th annual ARIA Awards saw our best and brightest stars return from around the globe perform on a live stage for the large-scale broadcast event.
The full awards extravaganza went ahead at Sydney’s Hordern with the biggest names in the business on hand, including nominees RÜFÜS DU SOL, Flume, Vance Joy, The Kid Laraoi, Baker Boy, and The Wiggles.
Eight-time ARIA Award-winner Natalie Imbruglia hosted alongside songwriter and drummer G Flip and bright young star Ruel.
“I am nervous,” Imbruglia said. “I’m very humbled that the 90s are trending. The outfits are back. The music is back.”
G Flip wore a rust-coloured suit from label Vegan Tiger as they made their way up the carpet with partner, Chrishell Stause from Selling Sunset, wearing a sparkling gold dress from Alin Le Kal.
Amyl and the Sniffers frontwoman Amy Taylor wore a see through Mugler outfit.
“I got it specially, I splashed out,” she said. “It has been a hard year so I thought, ‘go for it’.”
RUFUS DU SOL opted for designer suits, all in black, from fashion houses Armani,
Givenchy and Zegna. They were all smiles, still on a high after being nominated for two Grammy Awards in the US.
“We have been very lucky over the last five or six years especially,” the groups Jon George said. “We have definitely missed during the pandemic not being able to play in Australia and it is so nice to be back here for an Australian summer.”
Other big names walking the red carpet included Budjerah, Amber Lawrence, Thelma Plum and Vance Joy.
Casey Barnes was one of the first winners announced, taking out Best Country album for Light It Up.
“This has been the biggest year of my career by a country mile. I’m just grateful to be back doing what we love,” he said.
The Bold Type star Aisha Dee rolled into the ARIAs slightly late, because she’d come straight from a day at Sydney’s Bronte beach.
“I did my eyeliner in the mirror with shaky hands because I was trying to brush the sand out,” the actor said. She dressed comfortably in a purple Boss suit that “feels like pyjamas”.
After attending the GQ Men of the Year awards the previous night, Dee added that “I just couldn’t look out the window at the sunshine today. I had to be in it.”
Meanwhile, Dami Im was taking the night off her young baby Harry to perform a tribute to the late Judith Durham.
“The family specifically wanted me to do the song for her, so I’m super honoured,” she said, carefully splaying out the elegant train of her dress.
The last time Im was at the ARIAs was seven years ago, and she said not being up for a nomination is making the whole night more relaxed and fun.
